Ron Meegan, the assistant chief engineer for the new 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1's supercharged V8 (and formerly a member of the original ZR-1's engine team from 1990-'95), says he expects that once the new car's supercharged 6.2-liter V8 is certified, it will produce "greater than 620 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 595 pound-feet of torque in the 3,600-to-4,000-rpm range, depending on some last-minute tuning items."

Whether the ZR1 is rated at 625 hp or 633 hp or whatever, it won't just be the most powerful Corvette production vehicle ever (including ones measured by the grossly overstated "SAE gross" figures of pre-1972), it won't even be close. The power produced by the ZR1's LS9 engine will be roughly the equivalent of three 1980s-era Corvette small-block V8s bolted together. It'll produce more power than the Corvette C6.R that races at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Think of the Corvette lineup in Porsche 911 terms. The base coupe and convertible Corvette are buttstuffogous to the standard Carrera and Carrera S. The Z06 is the GT3 — the loud, hard-core choice of the performance junkie. The ZR1 is the Porsche Turbo. It's devastatingly fast, but it's also intended to be civilized.

Take a close look at that 'intake'. It is a single unit, integrating the Supercharger, Intercooler, and Intake Manifold. I guess they didn't want to waste any space. :hick:

That is so cool!

Glad to see they will revive the "ZR 1" name.

I have always wanted a 1990 ZR 1 but now it is not practical seeing as how expensive replacement parts are.

Still, the 1990 ZR1 will always be one of my favorites.

I bet those wheels on that new ZR1 will be a pain to get the brake dust off of.

Yeah, the Chief Engineer says in that article "If a buyer really wants them, he can get chrome wheels on it," although he's letting us know that he would never do such a thing and he thinks you shouldn't either.

Wow, They are make it even faster. I would almost say thats stupid. The car bairly sticks to the road now. Well the Z06. Now with even more power, WOW! That thing is going to lighting the traction control up.  But very sweet car.

They say it won't be any faster to 60 than the Z06, because that is already traction limited. But Quarter-miles and 0-100-0 times will be very different.

Yeah, basically what you will see is more wrecks per 100 cars sold to the public.

I remember hearing about how many people bought the Z07 Vette as well as the Viper and wrecking them because they "thought" they could control those cars.

I think it's more about how may people think they can get away with turning the traction control off. People need to realise that when you see the pro's do this, they're not on public roads!

WOW ! the single unit Supercharged/intercooler/intake is one of the most interesting engineering pieces i have seen in my life. They really made a superb job. I am seeing this engine in the next camaros or firebirds......ford, wake up !

awesome...and the zo6 was already the best american made sports car ever....imo anyway...

Yeah, those positive displacement screw blowers can make some serious power. Ford? Easy as bolting on a similar supercharger to a 3V.

Don't underestimate the Fords with similar blowers! Just because they are not offered factory (heck, it's probably a lot cheaper to do it aftermarket anyway)...

Kenne Bell has taken the 3V 4.6 to a new level. S.T. Motorsports tested the latest Kenne Bell 2.8H Supercharger and Mammoth inlet on their '06 Mustang test car. It made 804 HP with stock exhaust and manifolds(no headers). Guess how much is left? Headers and exhaust are next along with tests on an automatic transmission. The Kenne Bell 2.8H with the new Mammoth Inlet System (filter, meter, huge 4 1/2" ram air inlet tube, dual 75mm Kenne Bell throttle body and Mammothfold) was good for 204 HP! ( 804 vs. 600 = 204 hp @ same boost) 60 lb injectors, stock rails and lines, FRP GT dual pump kit w/ KB's exclusive dual Boost-A-Pump.
Kenne Bell Boost-A-Spark was the only ignition modification. The Boost-A-Spark fired the plugs even at 28 psi. Engine is a 4.6 built and tuned by S.T. Motorsports. Adam Montague will offer kits with 25 lbs (804hp) competition and 10 psi street with only a pulley change. The goal was 800+hp with stock exhaust and headers - just like our '07 Shelby GT500. It appears Adam's 804 hp 3v does, in fact , make the same power as our 801 hp Shelby GT500.
The Kenne Bell kits on both cars are almost identical. Both Mammoth Inlet Systems flow the same on our 1000 HP flow bench - and the 2.8H superchargers, boost, timing, AFR etc. are all the same.
You gotta love that little 281" 4.6L 3v. Kits will be available in 90 days and pricing is coming soon.
