Gumby, I first have to say all your different projects for your 'bird are amazing!!  Especially that IRS.  SO jealous.

But everyone keeps saying how great the gauges look and I just can't disagree more.  It's functional and you did a good job for what it is, but I just have to wonder why you spent time simply screwing some aluminum to your dash when you could have spent slightly more time filling the same openings with ABS plastic sheets and then cutting your gauge holes out for a super clean and pro looking interior.  I guess it's not all that common for people to do plastic work but it's really easy, you should look into it...  I think it'd pull you gauge clusters up to the level you have everything else for that beautiful car at!  :D :burnout: :D

Oh, and if this is just the way you like it ignore me!!  I've just been playing with some ABS work lately and thought I'd share...  I think it's really cool how easy it is to work with!

after you finish buildin your ABS panels, what do you do to make them look pretty? filler/paint? vinyl decals?
i could mold the aluminum in and do the same to make it look all pretty if i wanted. i dont.

i built the panels this way for a few reasons. i have access to the tools and materials, it works, its simple, and i think it looks good.

my car is not beautiful, it is functional; these panels follow the theme.

oh, and there arent any screws in them ;)

That's cool, if that's how your taste more power to you!!  :D  I didn't mean to trash it or anything.  I just noticed people on here are usually very blunt with there opinions and I like that.

I actually think (from what I've seen) your car IS beautiful!  Maybe not 100% in the normal sense, but the time you have in it and the way it's going to function is beautiful!

I guess I'm just more of a "make it look like it was put there by Ford" guy.  As far as the finishing, I'm still playing with it.  Faux finish painting, overlays (Aerobird says he's got some good materials for that)... idk, we'll see...  maybe I won't even pull it off!  LOL  that would suck!

Oh, hahaha...  rivets! My bad!  :punchballs:

ive built a few vehicles that way as well. the effort to build this car that way wouldnt make it any faster or handle any better, since those are the primary goals of this build.

maybe I missed it?

Gumby, what material are you using for the delete panels?

thanks

proper tools make it fairly simple. stomp shear, beverly shear, rotex punch, and a good selection of files.

I think I've got all that.  Which is to say, the guys at the CNC shop, where I spend loads of money,  have that.  The closest I personally get to that level of work is in my imagination.

Yeah, and I definitely have NONE of those!  LOL  I guess it is also somewhat true you tend to work with what you can work with!

I was just looking at your battery pics.  Did you get a hold down on it?  I was curious what you used...

booksix, the tie down is just an old "H" top from a summit battery box kit and some j-hooks thru the trunk floor. ill snag some pics of it when i have it all installed.

the interior is comin back together halfway decent

and my car has HEADLIGHTS!! kinda....

i propped my new lenses up in the holes with some wal*mart sacks jus to see what it looked like, as i dont have my housings to put them on yet. the corners and lenses are miles better than what i got with the car

The doors look sweet.  Only problem I see is there's too much sheet metal on the center dash and console area, you need some more gauges.

lil bits at a time. pulled the drivers kick panel back out today so i could install a dead pedal.
while i was messin with the parkin brake lever to make sure i didnt get in my own way, i remembered that i hadnt hooked the cables up to the calipers yet. i popped the rear wheels off and pulled on each cable to make sure they werent frozen, then hooked em up to the calipers. test and everything worked, but when i released the pedal the drivers cable didnt release. got a slow cable on that side i guess. gonna try to lube it up see if that helps...
while the wheels were off i measured for my rear sway bar endlinks, gonna build those tomorrow.

heres a pic of my new dead pedal. i was gonna try to pull it a lil further from the floor, more even with the clutch pedal, but there is really only one good place to mount it under the panel. two holes, a lil tpuppies of the kick panel, and done!

the core is 10.5"x 17.75"x 2"
i will be moddin the inlet tank to replace the duals with a singe that matches the outlet side. then i will mount it up in the bumper, over the top of the openings in the bumper cover.
