You soooooo need a rotisserie LOL so you'd have a much easier time getting all the  off the bottom that you really wanted to.
1987 20th Anniversary Cougar, 302 "5.0" GT-40 heads (F3ZE '93 Cobra) and TMoss Ported H.O. intake, H.O. camshaft
2.5" Duals, no cats, Flowmaster 40s, Richmond 3.73s w/ Trac-Lok, maxed out Baumann shift kit, 3000 RPM Dirty Dog non-lock TC
Aside from the Mustang crinkle headers, still looks like it's only 150 HP...
1988 Black XR7 Trick Flow top end, Tremec 3550
1988 Black XR7 Procharger P600B intercooled, Edelbrock Performer non-RPM heads, GT40 intake AOD, 13 PSI @5000 RPM. 93 octane

You aren't leaving me much of an excuse not to work on my car's underside, lol.  I've put it off til the Rotisserie is done...which is put off til the price of steel comes down.  Keep up the good work!

It all happens when the time is right. I've been planning this since about 2003. ;)

Today I decided to rebuild the trunk lid.

Drilled out the old rivets and yanked it off.

Did a little measuring, and did some cutting

Then a little fitting

Then a little more fitting

And this is what we end up with
Curve and all

Next is to rebuild the inside again. I hope for the last time

Before I redo the inside, I'll cut the outer panel and put a backing strip on so the replacement skin is in the correct place to match up. When I replace the inside, the panel should both line up with the outer one. We'll see how that goes. LOL

That's it for today.

Jerry, after reading this thread time and again, and seeing the pics of the progress thus far, I'm absolutely convinced you could build a car from scratch with your bare hands!

It's amazing!

Just a thought but on the passenger side you may want to make the tank bracket smaller if you're going to run 2.5" dual exhaust under the car. The top of the passenger side tail pipe will hit it if you use any of the pre bent Mustang tail pipes. Trust me I know ;)
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

You realize that when you're finished with this car, you would have touched every single inch of it!

Not sure about the smaller part, as I don't know where it would actually hit without having the pipes installed.
I'll deal with that problem as it comes. I also know where to get a 2 1/2" pipe bender just in case.

I'm sure there must be some part that I won't touch.

I cut some parts off the trunk today

Oh well, I guess I've seen worse. This pretty much said it all.

But on the lighter side of today.
I ended up making a pattern of my SFCs to send to someone, so they can copy them for their car.
It's got to be the strangest thing I've ever made in all my 25 years in building.

Looks like SFCs for a stagecoach. LOL

I have a friend with 2 87 cougars. One is a two tone blue v-6 with a good trunk lid. He is going to have to get rid of them by the end of the year. I'll bet I could get you a pretty good deal on them. I'll be going to his house this weekend, and I could get a couple of pics for you then.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I don't see shipping as being user friendly. Especially from out that way. I'm kinda in a bad area to get too, seeing that I'm right between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario with Canada on another side only 7 min. away.

You could see about a price to 14072, But I may have it finished by the weekend.
