Well, I also don't want to spend $200 for a pair of used E-7 heads either.
We'll have to see

If your looking for a nice upgrade over stock without breaking the bank than go with the explorer/mountaineer gt-40p heads and get the explorer intake too, you'll thank me later.

I've thought about it. Hard to find parts out this way cheap. Most places here will only sell the whole motor. and not anything decent for cheap.
I think I've got the parts situation covered as of this morning, also.

I'm putting the 302 in from the bird, and doing a stock HO upgrade, this time around. It will be a drastic change from the 3.8. And right now, the price is right for what I need to do.
I plan on taking my time building another motor while I can still drive the cougar.
I'm sure I'm going to have some setbacks and reworking as I'm swapping everything, but It will be all taken care of, and all the bugs will be worked out for this motor.
Besides, Catjam keeps getting closer every day. LOL

So, after my little vacation, I'm back to rebuilding the cougar.
But first things first. Even though I havn't been hands on working on the car, I still use the time to find the rest of the parts needed to put it together.

I got a full digital cluster for my upgrade.

And I got a handful of these. Are they any good for my project?

Thats all I'm going to show you for now. :D

so back to the rebuild
I had to do a little repair work before the actual panels go on

then to keep them from rusting.... you guessed it.

while that was drying, I started taking the rocker off the quarter panel. First I had to get rid of the seam sealer, then drill out the welds.

And it comes apart.

And now for the fun part. The hacking, cutting and fitting.

A little more cutting and fitting....

And a little more fitting...

Thats all for today. I'm glad to be back.

Todays adventure is getting the rocker ready for welding.
First, I have to fill in all the holes from drilling out the spot welds.

Then the holes in the door jamb.

I decided to weld the holes without a backing metal.
just clamp a piece of copper behind the hole, and weld it full
I made this copper spoon out of 1/2" tubing. the angle and round come in handy for a variety of applications. I patched a lot of holes in the floor using this baby.

here you can see it's tight with the back of the metal

then weld it closed.

then I ground down all the welds.

and back to fitting again

the next step is to secure it with screws until it's ready to weld. this part will need to be done before I weld the rocker.

Here's what it looks like after today.

So here's where I decided to cut the jamb.

So much for rust free. LOL

Apparently these are stamped a little different too.

Here I am making it work on my portable home made anvil.

Another angle

Here is everything screwed together.

This isn't as easy as it may look from the pics.
Here you can see several problems that I also ran into on the other side. This will probably be a couple hrs. to make everything line up correctly. (I hope)
This door was aligned perfectly with the old panels before I started.

More misalignment problems.

Well, not bad for an hour of work.
It should be perfect by the time I'm done playing with it. ;)

A shot of the panel back on the car.

That's all I got today. We'll see what tomorrow may bring
