I do like what what PHR is doing, but too much chebby shiznit to keep me interested.

Yeah, like Hot Rod...chevy this, chevy that...seems like every month they're either showing you a new "low buck" SBC build or testing out parts on a SBC....bleh.

And yet every time somebody writes to complain that they do too much chevy stuff, they always defend themselves by mentioning how many mopars and fords they've featured. Yeah, that's great, except that your tech is still all frickin' chevy! The ford articles they do have are hit or miss. Like a few months ago, they had a big thing on the cover about a "500 hp 351 modified!" or something like that, so I looked at the article and they used some kinda custom crank in the engine and chevy rods and all this other BS that woulda cost probably twice as much as building a 500 hp 351W :brick:

Just for shiznits and giggles I decided to take a count of ads VS actual editorial content. The final tally:

Ads: 173 pages
Content: 101 pages (including the cover, table of contents and masthead)

There were also three pages I didn't qualify for either section: The "Horse Power" section. While this is an actual "department" in the magazine it is really nothing more that the editors drooling over the latest & greatest (or most willing to pay to be featured) products. If you decide for yourself that it's advertising that brings the ad total up to 176 pages. If you think it's "content" it brings the "content" section up to 104.

Either way, it just goes to show that about 64% of the magazine is advertisp00get, 36% is content. With those kind of figures they should be giving the magazine away...

...and that brings up another point. The US price is $5.99, while the Canadian price is $6.99. Canadian prices have always been higher because of the weak Canuck buck. Thing is, our dollar is now worth around 95 cents USD. At current exchange rates the Canadian price SHOULD be around $6.30. They're ripping us off an extra 70 cents. Combine that with the fact that better than half the ads that take up better than half the real estate in the magazine won't even deal with Canadians (and Canadians are usually ineligible for their contests and giveaways) and it really makes me wonder why I ever bought the ed thing.

I know I won't be in the future...

It would probably have fewer advertisp00gets...

I read a lot of magazines every month (MM&FF, Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Automobile, Road & Track, Popular Mechanics, Hot Rod, Maximum PC, Reader's Digest) but I have never seen a magazine with so many advertisp00gets as MM&FF. There's like 20 pages of ads before you even get to the table of contents! It's gotten so that there's like 3 or 4 feature cars, one or two tech articles, the usual features (Racer Notebook, Yo Ken, Mustang Mail, etc), maybe a blurb about some all-Ford gathering, all mixed in with 180 pages of ads...

Yeah, just like playboy went way down hill with all the  advertisp00gets.  I looked at old playboys and there are hardly any at all. They are lucky they show what they show otherwise people probly wouldn't buy them either. Marriage made me let my subscription run out.

The sad part is that I check out the ads more than the articles.
