The rack isn't too bad. It's right there in front. Now if it was a Mark VIII, then that would be tough. Just remember to hand tighten the line fittings on the rack to get them started. They can cross thread if you try to wrench'm on too soon. If it's a long rack with the inner tie rods, that's even better. Your lines, the steering coupler, pop the outter tie rods off and count the number of turns, then the rack bolts and out she comes.
Timing and fuel pressure if your fuel injected. Timing and accelerator pump shot if carb'd.

One step at a time Daboss, and I firmly believe you can do anything.

When I get overwhelmed (and that happens often when building a house by yourself and preparing to get married at the same time) I find it is generally due to juggling the “to do” list in my head. It often helps to
1) STOP
2) Make a list of all things needed (remove the “TO DO” list from my head and put it on paper.)
3) Prioritize said list
4) Begin at the top of the list and do one thing at a time.

When I complete something cross it off the list
If I find something can’t be completed for need of a tool (as your example) I put “acquire said tool” on the list above that item.
I simply work my way through the list… the list is flexible and can be rearranged at will. But all the items are out of my head and on paper. Leaving my head for what it was intended for, to process problems and think my way through each project (without having to try and remember what the next project was at the same time)

Just what works for me, if you can use it your welcome to it.

very good advice! dont worry about other issues at the same time while you're dealing with another.

1st things first. you want the car to run, so ONLY worry about the fuel lines. once that is done, work on the leaking window(or in this case vice-versa). then tackle the next, and the next, the next, etc. pace yourself, and do it one at a time. its a lot for a 16yr old to take on, because we usually can only afford "project" cars. we hardly get a running car within our budgets. you need more hands on experience, rather than what you read on the net.

yea well im waiting on a guy and im going to look at a mark7 hopeing to get lines from that, so my temp fixes will allow me to focus on things that i cant check unless the car runs. Tomorrow before driving lessons (blah) im going to attempt to swap the rack. It may be alot for a 16 year old but, i know more and have more experience then average, so its not as big of a deal. Most of my friends watch me work and are amazed i know what shiznit is. I kinda enjoy the work. Now working with out the right tools  me off. I have some stuff, but not enough. I need to start building up a good set of tools

I would imagine any sort of leak in the fuel system would cause it to go lean... leaks cause pressure drops.

I agree with Jim.I have a list in my T-Bird notebook. My "wants/needs" list,My "what parts I have" list,My "what needs to be done" list.It really keeps track of work and progress.A constant status report I suppose. You're getting in a hurry. We talked about this a few months ago,and I told you then,do it right the first time and be patient. You siad "I'm a perfectionist",and how you weren't going to rig anything, now you have a "rigged" car.Buy a repair manual if you don't already have one, make a list of what you need, and get the right parts to do the job. You've probably spent WAAAY more rigging things than the needed parts would've cost.Get the tools you need and the parts, and do the work.Ask for help if you need it.If you're not capable of doing something, wait until you can get help,or have someone do it for you.Slow down. The car will be there.By getting in a hurry and rigging fuel lines, etc, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.Which it seems you've done quite well since you typed this thread.

Well i finally found a set of good mark lines!!!!!! that defiantly helps, the guy said he could get them off thursday hopefully. So untill then, now that the car runs, i can take care of the power steering, and hopefully the blown brake line.
AND i need to start taking pics and advertising those  parts...... But i think i broke the camera

if you can't do the power steering rack, you prolly dont want to mess with the front suspension....

All joking aside, make sure to work on your car as safe as possible. make sure to use jack stands.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

always use jack stands, and put block or the wheels under the car for added safety. Got the tie rod ends off, and part way got the rack off then it started to rain. I'm getting there...slowly. I did the list, now I just need to sell these parts, so I can start crossing things off.

O man this sucks. I found a 89 roller thats 100% rot free, and would make a sweet car, and i could use mine as a donor. I just don't think i have enough to make an offer, and the car is in gerogia....

That one is 100% rot free, mine is not. Mine needs all kinds of stuff. That one is a driving car. Im just saying it would be a nicer car in the end.
less money(i think) and work too. Mine needs fuel lines, brakes, and a few other things. that one i could swap the motor and goodies, some interior stuff, and have a straight, soild car.
Im not giving in on mine. If this doesnt happen I will finish mine. Id rather start with a better platform.

Take this into consideration.  Your existing car will be drivable with minimal effort that should take a couple days.  If you decide to combine two cars.. you will have a hell of a lot of work involved.  If you are scared of changing a rack and pinion do you feel confident you can change a motor?

Changing a motor is something i've done, and can do.
If i had 500 i would offer. I have about 150.... He says if no one wants it he will junk it maybe i can get it when he junks it? Also, maybe i could take that one, get other parts, get it RIGHT, have mine for a DD to let rot out, and have that one to build into a sweet machine. I dont know im gonna wait for a response from him before i make any plans.
