As for the FI you have, it's the holy grail of CFI. I kinda had a version of it on my car, but yours is a TRUE HO CFI. All I had was Ho CFI injecters in a regular 5.0 body. A nice find and it looks to be in great shape. I also wonder what the car would look like with say Pony's or Turbines on it

Color of top plastic part of the injector determines flow... Those are tan...

tom,, what resources do you have on injector id,, i only have a single page that appears in my emissions shop manual that randomly shows up for poor running diagnositcs.

Ted
that fuel injector does not show on my chart, not sure where they came from or if they are or were replaced in the past.

In the first pic below is a chart for your future ref.  This chart gets you a visual idea of what flow rate each injector is by its top color.  Your injectors are not within the years applicable to your HO.

Please see if you can get the number off the injector where i have arrows pointing.

In the second pic, there is a big round gold thing.  That little tiny plug in the top can be drilled out with a tiny drill bit.  Next start a screw in your hole you drilled. Next, pop out that plug.  Now you have access to the allen adjustment screw.
RULE OF THUMB----- 1 turn CW= 2psi.  THere is a fuel test fitting along the top of the CFI for reading fuel presure.  Thats where you would hook up your tester, duct tape the guage to the windshield, take off driving and watch the fuel presure to make sure it goes no lower than 30psi in between shifts.  This is a good idea for verificaiton of your fuel pump and its performance.  If you think you want to do this, ill suggest a 3.8L SC fuel pump.

Also,, with the key on only, measure your voltage at the green wire of the TPS , it has to be less than a volt.

Also,, on that distributor, is there a sideways mounted 6 wire connector?  if so,, its a TFI system.

Down near my sig,, i have a "diy link" you may want to check out.  Its sort of geared towards CFI systems plus a bunch of other stuff.

Also, if you ever experience hesitation ,,, and your tps reads good ,,, and your fuel pump has 40psi at idle and drive test within 30psi during shifts,, and your two main parts in the dizzy are good,,,,,,,,,,,REMOVE THE INJECTOR SCREENS.  Your problem will go away like magic.  Replace them if you want but i didnt.

edit: How in the hell did i not realize this thread has four pages? sheesh.

Cad-tbird, those are Ford's infamous "polycast" wheels. I don't understand the reasoning behind them either, unless they were looking for something that wouldn't be damaged as easily, but then the plastic center caps always get gouged up or broken. All I know is that they were all ugly and I'd rather have plain steelies than those ugly things.

Scott, I just have what you posted BUT....

The HO CFI inj are listed as gray... Suppose those are just tinted a bit, due to a little fuel evaporation????

I'd think it's highly possible...

Ford wasn't the only one to experiment with polycast. My '78 Trans Am had polycast "honeycomb" wheels on it, and I believe those wheels dated back to the early 70's. They looked good, but were heavy as hell and the metal "tower" that the center caps attached to rusted away, causing the caps to fall off.

I third the "10-hole" suggestion. 10-holes just look right on LTD's...

I was thinking the same,, discoloration due to fuel.

Ted
Can you do one more thing,, Unplug either injector and measure the riesistance.  Or if you cant,, get someone to do that.  I suspect something here but i dont wanna call it out right now.  If it is what i think it is,, the CFI EEC is more toloerant to deviations in injector typs than what i thought.  Im running blue tops and didnt have problems related to the eec.

Okay I looked local and did not find any 10 hole wheels.  But I found these on eBay and they look pretty nice.

I put a bid in thinking that the buy it now would disappear but maybe ebay changed than and it's still there.

Should I wait it out or just pay the $300 plus shipping and get it over with.  How much wear is 5/32" left?  Just over 1/8 inch does not sound that good to me, but legal for a while.

Shipping is flat rate of $149 so if I got them with my current bid it would be $274.  Well at least the tires will last a little while.  I think he is going to spend very close to the $149 to get them to me in Washington.

I have two 10 hole already but they are pretty rough shape and I like the sound of these.  I want the car to look nice.

I have not seen too many for free and they seem to be kind of hard to find in Washington.  I had to look quite a while to find two because I thought they would be good for slicks, I thought they were 8 inch but now I know they are 7.

Okay so I will wait it out.
