Squeaking strut mount, how to fix?

I've had this annoying driver's side squeaking sound for awhile that drives me nuts because it squeaks constantly on anything but a smooth road surface. I traced it to the driver's side upper strut mount, it just squeaks every time I go over a bump. How can I fix it? Any chance of lubricating something to get it to go away for the time being?

It all depends on what is squeaking. You can't take the stock Tbird upper mounts apart, and there's alot of rubber in there. Have you tried shooting some grease (or even just some WD-40) around the inside of the upper bushing?

You sure it's the strut mount, and not the ball joint?

It's not the ball joint. I can put my ear down near the upper strut mount and just push the car to the side ever so slightly and it squeaks, and it's definitely coming from there.

I haven't tried spraying anything in there but I think I will. I'll try spraying some silicone in there.

To squeak it would need to slip, probably rubber to steel. Upper strut is rubber mounted. Possibly try just tightening it up so it no longer slips?

There is nothing to tighten. The stock mounts are a sandwich of steel and rubber that are not servicable. There is a center sleeve that the strut rod tightens to. Just making that tight(er) isn't going to do anything.

Would I need to unbolt the strut from the strut tower to effectively get some silicone in there? (don't wanna use WD-40 since it eats rubber)

Only if you wanted to get some on the lower part of the bushing (above the boot). The mounts do not come apart, so unbolting the strut won't make any difference.

Don't the 87 88 TC's have a different type of strut mount?

They might be a little different, but the overall non-seviceable nature exists in both types...
