Re: Rack and Pinion ration for 88 Cougar? Reply #3 – January 27, 2005, 08:44:05 PM You'll need:-Correct P/S Pump and Rack (make sure they're both of the same ratio! Chuck can elaborate)-To be safe get new hoses and new fluid to fill it with-Also may want to get new tie-rod ends-Hell with it, get new bushings, too. Quote Selected
Re: Rack and Pinion ration for 88 Cougar? Reply #4 – January 27, 2005, 11:24:46 PM I just put in the sport rack & pinion. I didn't have to mess with the pump or hoses at all. But mine was a 85 bird. ??? I put on the new tie-rod ends, end links, and sway bar at the same time. Made for much nicer steering. Quote Selected
Re: Rack and Pinion ration for 88 Cougar? Reply #5 – January 28, 2005, 09:11:26 AM Me too, 3 years ago. Rack, inner & outer tierods. Kept the original "slow" pump. Works fine. Quote Selected

Re: Rack and Pinion ration for 88 Cougar? Reply #7 – January 28, 2005, 12:49:18 PM Man... Chuck? Where you at? I could've sworn he said something about matching the pump. Maybe it's only that you can't use a fast pump with a slow rack. Hmm, now I'm thinking. Quote Selected
Re: Rack and Pinion ration for 88 Cougar? Reply #8 – January 28, 2005, 09:50:50 PM Well guys the pump i already have it its from a 95 mustang gt so the sport rack and pinion is 15:1? Also if I already have the pump will it hurt it If I install it seeing that this one is newer than the one it has now thanks guys lmk. Quote Selected
