Norfolk Southern, the railroad corp? What's the position? I used to work for a company that was subcontracted by them and CSX for rail yard transportation. Anything involving work in a rail yard (I can only guess what they would have for an Electrical Engineer) is VERY dangerous work. I can't even remember the number of life and limb incidents that I remember hearing about in the 2 years I worked for that company. The second two choices (L-M and N-G) would be at the top of my list (as I'm sure there are plenty of those in VA and D.C.). Anyway, good luck hunting! When I graduate I'm probably going to end up with the Turnpike/ bridge-tunnel authority of New Jersey and New York. Seems to be the only real promising path for a Civil Engineer major around my area.

I went in to the main office in Norfolk yesterday for my final interview/testing and everything went well. I am interested in the Management Trainee program in the Communication and Signals Department. I will find out within 2-3 weeks if I get the job. I will go into training for 6-10months in Atlanta Ga and come out a Supervisor in the C&S department. The trades people are more responsible for the on track duties, mine will be more of a management duty. Organizing teams, project planning, scheduling, etc. The benefits/pay at Norfolk Southern seem pretty good, Id start out at $50k with nice vacation, 401k, tuition pay, and relocation pay. I want a management position, which is hard to aquire for entry level experience. Ive heard from EEs at Northrop Grumman that all they do is review schematics and its really boring. Im more of a hands on person, and want to get some good managerial experience. I take the FE exam in April(yay  ) So that should be fun lol. I plan to go back to school to get my Masters, in what I dont know. I am also seriously considering Amsec which is a govt contractor. Who knows, but the market for EE's is definately strong.

Good Job !!!
Now look into the PMP certification program, self study with an exam at the end.
Your more marketable in that industry right about now.
I never could figure out the differences in the A.S.S and the B.A. degree in that field though.

I went to ECPI,, wish i went on to ODU or UVA for a B.A.

Thanks, its been a long time coming lol. I will be taking the FE exam and eventually the PE exam to become a professional engineer. However, Im not sure if you will get paid more. I honestly dont need to take the FE but its better I take it now when I have this stuff fresh in my mind. Im not very knowledgeable about associate programs so I cant comment on that. Are you in the VA area?

It feels really weird to say this.. having been not officially employed for several years now.. ( under-the-table/"independent contractor" jobs, plus that whole time freelancing PC repair and/or selling stuff from online games) and especially since I've only worked one day so far.. but:

Maintenance worker at a local motel. $8/hr., 3 days a week to start. (more later if my bad back permits)

Yeah I made it through, the evacuation was like a National Lampoon's movie though.

My work got about 4 ft of water and most of our specail tools and equipment was damaged by flood water. I was smart enough not to take a chance a lift tool box up on a rack to avoid any of my tools getting ruined.

We build seats for Ford Kentucky Truck Plant for their Super Duty Series. I'm the night shift materials supervisor. Lots of fun...(yawning)...and been doing this for five years now. Can't imagine building too many more of these vehicles if the prices of gas keep going up, but hasn't slowed things down yet. In fact, we're working Saturday night overtime this week and three others over the next couple months.
