MN-12 Sunroof question

My brother in law owns a 1995 Cougar 4.6 which up until this morning HAD a power sunroof.  On his way to work the sunroof decided it wanted a divorce from the rest of the car and flew up into the air while he was on the highway travelling at 55MPH+

Off hand does ANYONE have the ability to get a part# so I can find one without running around to every junkyard within 50 miles.  I've looked to no avail and eBay would be kind of too long to wait.  Also what kind of nightmare am I in for when I replace this sucker?

Good luck gotta say I never heard of that before and after you find the right part I’m sure there broken and bent parts causing it to break off.
I took one out of a 88 bird to get it safety wise race ready and I remember trying to be nice at first and then losing my patients so a just ripped it out and it was in there pretty good and I remember saying to myself I hope I never have to fix one of these.
I also owned a 92 bird that I bought w/a moon roof leak and when I was looking at it it looked setup a lot like the 88 so mechanically there probably the same though parts are probably different sizes. Never had to take it apart though cause I got lucky my leak was fixed by a good cleaning and blowing out the vacuum lines

WOW. That's incredible.
Was it a factory moonroof?
If my '96 had the moonroof I would run out and check it right now... but it doesn't.
If you're unable to find one, I think there are a few '95 Cougars in my local yards which may have the moonroof. Keep us posted.

How funny, my 1993 Mark VIII did that too.  I needed to remove the glass and wound up stripping a couple screws thanks to the previous over-torquing from the dealer when they put new weatherstripping on it (and never glued it).  The arms are made out of plastic, so they break when screws are missing and the wind catches it at highway speeds.

But you already knew that.

I got another one from a 1990 Cougar at a local junkyard.  They are all the same from 1989-1997, though the Mark VIII glass/weatherstrip changed in 1997-1998.  Get the whole assembly, its real easy to change out too...just one bolt in the rear (near the motor) and a handful of screws in the front.

I saw that happen to a Stang' at the dragstrip. It just blew off, I thought it was because of the air resistance aginst it at a cirtin speed.
