what engine?!?!?!

technically it was just the LSCs that had 290 hp but the extra hp came from a true dual exhaust. the engines were the same.

And I think all the Cobras had was a more open intake and exhaust. At least the 96-98 ones, 305hp i think.

96-98 cobras use the same heads that all the mark viiis have. the 97-98 mark viii had the best intake for the mark viiis. the 96-98 cobra intake was an entirely different intake and imrc setup than the mark viiis but will bolt onto those heads. the 99 up cobras got different heads so you cand put a mark viii or 96-98 cobra intake on those. they have a better inake and deleted imrcs anyhow. (even the 99s). their is a slight differance in cam profile as well. the cams in the mark viiis are a little better suited for the autos. barely any differance, but it is there. the forged steel crank the cobras got are in important detail as well. the 96-98 cobra was rated at 305 hp. the 99-01s were rated at 320 (over rated for the 99s without any fix) the mach 1 is rated at 305 hp bit its widly known that this is under rated and they are much closer to 320.

there are a few other smaller differances like the timing covers and pully setups beween years but those changes were between 99-01

the 03-04 cobra engines are a totaly different animal. 390 under rated supercharged hp. amazingly super respond to simple mods, 450-500 hp can be had almost by accident. cast iron block, the 03-04 heads (mach 1 and merauder have these as well), timing cover, pully setup, bracketry, alt location, compression, heads, intakes, forged rods and pistons etc....all different. imho, it would be the ideal engine if ford didnt give up their contract to teksid and used those blocks in the 03-04 cobras instead of the heavy iron blocks (these are basically retooled mustang gt blocks).

this is where the teksid blocks are now going, retooled.

so if i buy a 98 lcs engine, i could put a 98 cobra intake manifold on it? and also, i was wondering if i could put the cobra patriot heads on it?

if patriot performance has dohc heads for the 96-98 cobra than yes. the 96-98 cobra intake will bolt up to ALL of the mark viii heads/engines. i would have to assume they are ported otherwise they wouldnt be worth having. if you have that intake, than you could use any of the mark viiis engines, as they are all basically all the same. you might need the fuel rails as well...in order to use a stick tranny with a mark viii engine, you will need the 99 up mustang gt flywheel with 6 bolts. with that flywheel you can run an 11" clutch which is cool. same goes for the cobra engine, accept it will be an 8 bolt crank flywheel.

the 93-98 mark viii engines all have the exact same heads as 96-98 cobras. the 99-01 cobra heads are different, and NOT compatible with the mark viii intakes or the 96-98 cobra heads. 99-04 cobra heads, 99=01 intakes, 03-04 mach 1 intakes and heads will interchange. if you use the 03-04 heads though, you need to change the exhaust manifolds for the right year head.

all this considered, you will need to decide exactly how you are going to drive the motor ignition wise....i was going to convert my car over to HO with an A9L, XFI aftermarket ignition and a crank and cam trigger wheel combo.
you could also swap over all of the electronics from a donor cobra. depending on the engine you pick, this may be the way to go. like if you use a 96-98 cobra engine or mark viii engine, you might want to keep the imrc plates (they help with low end TQ) the ccrm controls this function with the computer. on the other hand, there ar aftermarket controllers that con control that function. there are a lot of different ignition options. you just have to chose whats best for you and whats available....
