stock car out, '76 4x4 in

my stock car's roll cage wasn't up to par plus my help took off, so that led to the stock car being sold to a local builder which is a friend of a buddy of mine to help it come back to the track.
I've sold my '92 for $800 to another of my friends for $800, and I am buying a '76 Ford 4x4 for $800, it is in primer, needs floorboards, to be perfect...yeah it's in very nice shape besides that, someone tried restoring it and that's where they left off. It has the 300 I6 single barrel *BLAH*, but next spring I'm hoping on a 400M swap, and smokestacks too :sawzall:  it has a wooden bed with is pretty nice...this will be a trail rig, parts chaser, car hauler. YEAH I'm A Ford man...hahaha

Not to dog on the 400 engine, but if it was my truck, i'd just drop in a 351w 4bbl and call 'er done.
The 400 has the 429-460 trans bolt pattern, which means you'll have to change trans, X-case, and a few other things..
Plus, 351w upgrade parts are a lot easier and cheaper to get.
No knockin the 351m/400, built properly, they can make gobs of torque, bad thing is, they don't like a lot of revs...but hell, you know all this lol.
good luck...

Well, if you've got or will have all the stuff to swap in, that makes it easier.
Got any pics of it?

what is wrong with the 300? I know a guy that claims he has 450 hp and no estimate on the torque from one. He also claims it has stock pistons and cam....

My 76 van with the 300 is pleanty beefy enough to pull an awful lot of things. Fully loaded it can do about 55 up parlies canyon, which is faster then a v-6 cougar/bird can do empty with just me in it.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
