How soon till puppiesan starts selling appliances in America?

Because when they do I just might start buying them.

My dishwasher went into death moans Thursday night without ANY warning.  It was a Maytag and had served me well for 2 years and had served the previous homeowner since 1999 so it had a halfway decent run at 7 years.  I figured it wouldn't be worth it to throw a new motor on it as the rest of it was 7 years old as well and other things could start going wrong at any moment.

Off to my local appliance store I go on Saturday and purchase a new GE model 5800 color white.  I get a good price....$359.... it lists for $499 at that particular location.  The sales guy says that they can have someone install it for a mere $150.  After I stop laughing I simply tell him no thank you and pick it up from their warehouse.

Thankfully, when I removed my old dishwasher I was smart enough to keep it around because I had to take a few parts off it that did not come with the new one such as the water inlet adapter (a $3 cooper union) and the water discharge hose!

If it's experiences like this that have turned consumers away from domestic autos (not to mention the service given by domestic auto manufacturers) then I can TOTALLY understand why both GM and Ford are flailing in deep water without a life preserver.

My washing machine is the only appliance I haven't replaced yet.....Think Honda makes them?

Umm...kind of an odd buttstuffogy to draw there, but I believe that the majority of new dishwashers do not come with the water inlet adapter. As for the discharge hose, I'm not sure, I can't remember if our last new DW came with a new one or not.

BTW most "domestic" appliances aren't really made in the US anymore, anyway...a lot of them are "assembled" in mexico, I don't know where the parts come from.

Hey if they last 2x as long, use 1/2 as much energy, have 2x the features and cost 1/2 as much, wouldn't you buy it too?  :D

lol - maybe they should wash your dishes for you too?

I have a puppiesanese microwave - the LED screen (like how much time I am microwaving something) stopped working properly within 6 months of installing it. I had no desire to remove it from the wall, so I opened it and the driver for the LED's was burning off the PCB due to a really knumbskull designer who had to be an idiot.

OTOH, my Sears Kenmore dishwasher has been serving up clean dishes since I moved here in 1988 - and it was two years old when I bought the house. Your mileage may vary.

I have an 18-20 year old made in USA proctor-silex toaster that will toast the hell outta the most expensive foreign made POS you can buy today, I will keep and if the need ever arises rebuild that old thing before I buy some foreign POS.

Unfortunatally my mom garage saled my microwave that we had for about as long as the toaster so i'm stuck with a 10-15 year old korean made GE, so far so good.... still not as good as the last one though.

Appliances never will be what they were, live with it.... Or live in the past like myself, so what if the lights dim when I put toast on!

Seem like nowadays everyone wants things to be cheap, but they forget that quality is lost in the process.  Not that the more things cost, the better they are, but most of the time you do "get what you paid for".
