Power steering questions

I'm installing a tubular k-member in my 87 thunderbird.  I decided to get a new power steering rack while i had everything off the front end today, and bought one made for a 93 mustang v8 from napa, along with new pump for the same application, and new tie rod ends.

When i went to test fit this rack on the k-member, it didn't slide on the rack tubes at all  :screwy: ...this rack has one-piece bushings.  Were there different racks for mustangs that this k-member might be designed for or am i missing something??

Also, does anyone know where i should go to find power steering pressure line hose assembly, every where i tried said they didn't have any in stock but can order...i'm on a time crunch.

Btw...taking off a stock k-member is fun.   I used my jack handle as a breaker bar to get the  a-arm nuts loose...about a 2.5 foot long breaker bar.

Thanks

Do the bushings in the rack have a metal insert in them?  Was your existing rack one with two-piece bushings and a the rack tubes?  If so, you need to remove the one-piece bushings from the new rack and get a set of the two-pice ones and install.  Might as well grab a set of poly ones if you have to buy new.

Chuck,

The one i bought has the metal pressed in tube while my old thunderbird had the two piece.  I'm going to try taking this back and swap it for the two piece type as now it makes sense why the parts guy was asking that.

Thanks for turning my light bulb back on :brick:

For future reference and archive, the right part number power steering rack to install for a tubular k-member is napa part 22203a with the two piece bushings.

Cool.  As mentioned, since you're going through all the trouble to install a Kmember, it might be a good time to swap in poly rack mounts as well.  Should be under $20 for a set.

Do you think any of the major autoparts retailers would have a set of those in the store?  I dont have enough time left before i have to go back to school to wait for stuff to ship.

Thanks,
