Seat upolstery price question

I know that I need to have the front seat bottoms re-upolstered because the leather has cracked. I went to the local upolstery shop and they said that to re-upolster the two front seat bottoms with immitation leather would be about $400. Does this seam reasonable or is it too high? If some of you have experience in this area I would appriciate any input you have. Thanks in advance.

Mmmm...it may be a tad high, but you're also in a major city, and that's probably the going rate out there. Ask them if you take the seats out yourself and bring in just the bottoms, if they'll give you a discount. Sometimes that works great--less work for them, a little more work for you, but a smaller bill in the end. Are you getting the entire bottom redone, or just the ass area?

That's the estimate taking the seats out of the car and taking them to the guy. I'm just getting the place where you put your butt redone on both seats. The leather is bad but the vinyl on the rest of the seat is good.

Ouch...well...personally I think that's a little high. I'd pay $200-300 tops for something like that. Then again, where I live the cost of living is a lot lower. I guess it's all relative. Do you have other places where you can get estimates?

Yeah I think I'm going to try some other places. This one is the closest to my house so I figured I'd try them first. I guess if i have to drive a bit it might be worth it to save some money.

Nope I just have gray leather, not raven. I'm going to try another guy tomorrow and see what he says. Maybe it'll be less, around the $200-$300 range.

-try switching to vinyl.  i had the two front seats in my 93 sho redone a couple of years ago.  they were black leather with cloth inserts. had vinyl put where the leather was, new cloth, they supplied the fabric, i just supplied the seats.  both was $595.

I don't remeber the name of the place but I know you can buy leather one for the mustang seats like our for $595. I found them in MM&FF. They have all sorts of stang parts. I think they are in GA.

I got another estimate today. If I take the seats out and give them to this guy he'll do them for $250. He showed me the material he's going to use and it's almost dead on for what's on the seats now. I think I'm going to go with this guy.
