4.6 in a fox

start with the K member i have for sale, as well as the hydroboost setup ;)

it depends on what you want to do for an ignition. there are a few options. also depends on wht 4.6 you want to use. sohc, dohc,96-98 gt 99-04 gt, 93-98 mark viii, 96-98 cobra 99-01 cobra/mach1/merauder etc...03-04 cobra. they all use different ignitions. now, you CAN use a distributer conversion. i considered this. you could then run the car off of a mass air eec iv like an A9L or something making it a pretty easy swap. ive seen guys have problems with the distributer setup not being perfectly hub-centric and causing problems. there is also a belt driven distributer conversion. cool, but not my cup of tea.

you could also use some piggyback electronics to use a distributerless ignition with the A9L. they use cam and crank triggers. this is what i was going to do. FYI, the 93-94 lincoln mark viii eec has many of the same functions as the A9L. a few extra that you simply wouldnt use as well. im confident that it would be relitivally easy to trick the A9L into thinking its still running a 5.0, not a 4.6.

so, that leaves you with stand alone aftermarket dis systems, orfactory systems.

the factory cobra computers and harnesses can be spliced into a fox. lots of info out there.

you could even run a carb setup. lots of options.
to get back to what you need, well for starters, other than deciding on an ignition and understanding the differances between the engines themselves, the electronics, and different fuel systems, you NEED a k member. the sn95 4.6 k can work, but a tubular swap k is recomended for ease of install and clearance. you will also need the hydroboost brake setup, or go with manual(no assist) brakes. this is deffinetly so with the DOHC. im not 100% sure on the SOHC. if you go with a factory style ignition, as specially one out of a cobra, you will have to seal with PATS. a chip of puter flash can fix this. there is a ton of info out there. i know im all over the place with this post, but i guess i got a little excited!

modularfox.com
modularfords.com has a nice little swap section.
i dont know if modular4V is back up

sure its a very involved swap, but i think it would have been well worth it. if i didnt pick up the stang than id be well on my way to assembaling the tbird with all the parts i bought insteasd of selling it all. weird how things work out with timing and all.

i wouldnt say its much harder than some of the swaps going on here. sure if you have an 88 sport, your 5.0 HO is plug n play, but these guys that are swapping the Ho in place of the 2.3t or into an earlier car are getting just as deep into a swap as the modular/fox swap. i realy wouldnt be afraid of it.

i guess there is a guy that had started one in a 87-88 tbird. shawn sent me the cardomain link a few weeks ago on it. ill post it if i find it. hasnt made any progress realy but it looks good. plenty of fox stangs rolling around with modular power these days so the help and info is there. i used to try to leave out the fact that the car was a tbird and not a fox stang though. stang guys can be a little weird about that.

i love my stang. i love the dohc modulars. i would have loved the tbird complete as well but it just didnt work out. it could have EASILLY been all that my mustang is with twice the "personality". hell, it likely would have handled and felt much like it as they weigh just about the same, and would have had exactly the same suspension and brakes. maybe if i had my own house and an extra bay for it thigs would have been different. im not going to let myself feel to bad about letting it go though. i still have alot of love for the fox tbirds n cougars. always will. unfortunately, other obligations i have now are more important. its just money anyway. i can get all that stuff if i want again later. the only real issue i have is weather or not i will be able to find a tbird as rust free or rust free parts as the one i now have.

i couldnt decide what was more annoying. having a nice mustang that at any car show would blend in and be lost with all the other mustangs, or a tbird all done up that would stand out, just enough for people to say its only a tbird....lol
