wiring question

The problem is Ford changed the wiring and connectors almost every year when the FI stuff was fairly new. A air bag harness for a Stang is different than a non baggie type. Good thing is the different circuits use pretty much the same color wiring between the Bird and Stang... Bad news is they occasionally subistuted wire color due to lack of a certain color combo. So the green/tan may have gotten a green/pink wire(example) I found a couple that were different from the wiring diagram in the '87 Bird harness I have in my TC.

AFAIK the fuel pump plug should be on a short lead connected near the computer connector. Wires are, power(2), relay controll and ground. Wire color is confusing as Ford used two different hookups between the std Birds and the TC but wire color was the same.  What you should have is:

Yellow...  main power to the relay(feeds contacts)

Pink/Black to the fuel pump(from contacts).

Red.... to fuel pump energizing coil(probably connects to pink/black TO and FROM the inertia switch).

Tan/Light-Green... this is the ground for the relay coil to energize it, is fed from pin 22 of the EEC. The EEC only supplies ground for the relay IF it is receiving a iginition pulse. So the fuel pump circuit will NOT function unless the EEC is receiving power(red/green) and pulse back from the TFI...

To avoid the issues you're having, I wired my TC with the '87 Bird harness BEFORE the engine was installed. Also connected all the sensors and scanned the computer to be sure things were correct and it would run. Absoultly amazed my buddy I could scan the EEC with no engine in the car.... Started on first try...

If I remember correctly the bird use a smaller grey plug... Anyway best to check the color of the wires. If nothing else follow (IF you can get to it), the wire from pin 22 of the computer. It has to lead to the plug...

I got a harness from a 90's mustang

the harness was bought off ebay

O2 sensors correct me if Im wrong here. Its showing 3 wires coming out where mine only have 1?
You sure it was a 90's? V8? What year did heated O2 sensors (3-wire) come out?

eBay link to the item? Or was it bought a loooong time ago?

The three wire sensors have been standard on 5.0s since the first SEFI in the '86 models...

The CFI 3.8 used the single wire sensor thru '87

I think I found it its a small Grey plug with 3 wires in it. I ran across one thats square and has 4 wires in it. funny part is when I test it with power and a test light the speakers in the door pop. One of the wires in the plug is the wire color the EVTM pages show. anyways I'm taking that and rewiring my harness. I'm tired of playing guessing games I'll use the harness from the mustang and the harness that was in the car and make one that works and plugs right in. basically its ticked me off. I'll let y'all know how it went tomorrow

I looked at mine('87 5.0 Bird harness)... Round, grey, four pin plug near the EEC... Has red, yellow and tan/green wires(only three)... At the relay in the trunk(near right shock mount), same wires with the addition of pink/black to feed the fuel pump..

I dunno what the plug will look like on the Stang harness...

yep thats it on the stang harness it looks exactly like our mirror switch harness plug under the console thats actually where I got the plug to connect to it I cut it out of my parts car. doesn't matter now though I'm wiring it with the plug for my car, I came to the decision that it would be better to mod the harness and not the car harness in case I ever get parts for the car later on.
I got the harness wired. Using the EVTM I came up with about 4 wires that the car didn't need that were in the stang harness at least it doesn't show a spot for them on the blue stripe down the middle of the pic.

OK update I got the harness sorta made and ended up with a big knot. straightened it out enough to hook everything up to see if its going to work. I have fuel now, yay me. but I lost spark to the distributor now. basically there is no power going to the distributor and the only way I can get everything to power up is to run a hot wire from a hot spot to the connections that need power. If it wasn't for the fact that the computer adjusts voltage and the fuel and the spark and all this stuff Id just run hot wires to all my  from the battery and call it good. I'm basically a half step past fed up, 2 steps passed pissed off, and one step away from just blowing it up.Ive been doing this swap for a week straight now and this wiring is taking up most of the time in it its starting to look like anyway. Tomorrow I go out for attempt 3 of getting a wiring harness installed/made to make the car run.

OK I got it something going now. I'm not sure what I did but I took the harness out of my parts car which is a 3.8 I took the wires out of the 5.0 harness that I didn't have and replaced/swapped/moved wires in the harness. unbelievable it started. as soon as I got the timing issue straightened out it purred with a rumble that would make someone cream themselves( the girl helping me almost did). ANYWAY for some reason the yellow wire for my fuel pump relay isn't working I have to use the one that was in the harness for the 3.8 and hot-wire it direct. I have to figure it out and find out what of my sensors aren't working or aren't hooked up kicking the check engine light on. The main thing is it works. It may not be right and it may be frowned upon but it made the thing start and run so it cant be all bad.

So who can tell me where the yellow wire goes in the computer that runs the fuel pump relay and at least one of the sensors on the passenger side of the motor. I can hear something click there when I hook power to the wire just not sure what it is. Could be my IAB not sure if they click though.
