Steering and column shift linkage Reply #1 – June 02, 2006, 09:42:13 AM Why are you pulling it all the way out?Just drop it down from the dash. Unplug the wires and it's just a couple fasteners and it drops down. No need to pull the entire thing out of the car.The only time I pulled the entire column was when I install the hydraulic pedal assy in the 84 XR-7 when I did the T-5 swap.Every other cable pedal swap has just been done by dropping the column. Steering and column shift linkage Reply #2 – June 02, 2006, 11:10:30 AM well..... that is what i have done so far..... just getting the old hanger assy out was a pain in the arse... and ive noticed the new hanger assy is slightly wider with the clutch pedal.... i dont want to go through the hell of snakin it around the column n such to get it in and out... so id like to remove column and shift linkage to make it easier. yeah it may seem like doin the difficult way..... but to me it seems easier so im all for that lol Quote Selected

Steering and column shift linkage Reply #5 – June 02, 2006, 12:42:09 PM Even if you pull it loose and move it back, it will allow you to drop the column all the way....you can even set it on the back seat. That's what I would do before I would yank the entire column. Quote Selected

Steering and column shift linkage Reply #7 – June 02, 2006, 03:20:56 PM The whole colum just pulls straight out, after you undo maybe 4? bolts. They are right out in the open if I remember right. That was one of the first things I ever did to a car before. On the shaft, like I said it will pull straight out, but I think there is like two bolts on the linkage itself that you can undo and pull half of it. The other half goes to the power steering. Quote Selected
Steering and column shift linkage Reply #8 – June 02, 2006, 08:23:31 PM welp i got it all done the new pedal assy is in. couldnt get the linkage for column shift apart but i seperated that from steering wheel n lowered it as far as it could go..... then i to steerin column completely out by removin 1 bolt (after taking the bolts off from the inside on the hanger assy) but it was a pain to get back together lol. i think that section of the shaft... slides up n down kind of like a collapsing steering wheel. but its all done. i retained the factory automatic brake pedal for a larger surface to brake on. it comes fairly close to the clutch pedal but i think it will be alright. thanks yall for your help. getting the transmission monday and getting flywheel surfaced.... and getting a header.... all i need now is the clutch kit and driveshaft shortening and coupl emisc things here n there Quote Selected
