Weight question ...

About how much does a 5.0 Tbird weigh .. I'm trying to determine how much I've got to over come to get a respectable time out of it. :D

yes I'm fat. OKAY! does this mean you don't love me anymore! I hate you. I HATE YOU!

oh wait.. um.. the weight of the T'BIRD!.. yah.

they are a bit heavy, but if you can get the weight a bit more balanced (relocated battery, remove sound deadening) they aren't TOO bad.. you will just need a bit more power to move the tub.

I weighed my car once a few years back.  I'm trying to remember but I'm pretty sure it was in the 3400 range.  They aren't as heavy as you'd think.  And I agree that you can do a lot to lighten them up.

Since you are looking for approximations, the 1988 Linc/Merc Product Portfolio puts the XR-7 curb weight at 3525.  Curb weight should include full tank and all fluids.  This number is a revision.  The originally listed 88 Cougar weights (in early brochures and original facts book pages) were 40 lbs less for the XR-7 and 4 lbs less for the LS.

Strange that the LS is 3241.  That's a big difference.  Must be that V8 and all those extra standard features.

For 87 it lists the XR-7 at 3355 and the LS at 3133.  Something is way wrong here.  How can it change THAT much in one year for these cars which barely changed.

I have an 88 TBird brochure which was printed in August of 87 and like the Cougar one, it may have been on the light side.  It lists the "standard vehicle" at 3215 and the Turbo Coupe with 5M at 3415, with AOD at 3419.  Hmm, small difference considering that AOD is heavy as ***.

The 87 TBird brochure printed in 8/86 lists 3133 for the "standard vehicle" and 3380 for the TC.
"lol.. because not too many people care for that style of car"

Well my Tbird has every option but a sunroof and I put it on the scale where my dad works. With a full tank of gas it weighed 3,568lbs with a full size spare in the trunk.

So basically I'm starting in the 3500 lb range ... looks like it's time to put this pig on a diet before I even get the engine and tranny in it. :D

Auto TC had the A4Ld, not the AOD although there may not be much weight difference between them. My 88 auto TC with all options except leather and moonroof weighed 3360 with a half tank of gas.
