'87 vs '88 5.0 SO-quick question Reply #6 – March 01, 2006, 01:53:55 AM well, I'd swap in an HO motor, but after buying the complete interior, and the wheels from the TC, I'll have (barely) enough to just get the SO 5.0...and I still need shocks, struts, and some other susp. stuff. Not to mention tires.Besides, as long as I got the V8 underhood, I'm gonna be happy (for a minute), as I can always convert it to HO later.(and will, you can bet your arse I will!)I thought that you could swap in an '87 into an '88, and not have a problem.Seeing that I've got a V6 in now, I'm obviously gonna need the computer, too. '87 vs '88 5.0 SO-quick question Reply #8 – March 01, 2006, 02:09:38 AM So, to use the '87 5.0, I'll need the engine harness from an '87 Cougar/Tbird...I'm kinda mis-read on my info, I assumed that with an '88, a 5.0 from 86 on up wuld plug rightin, with matching computer...If I have to have the '87 car's engine harness, I can get it, too. '87 vs '88 5.0 SO-quick question Reply #10 – March 01, 2006, 04:44:39 PM alright, looks like I'm gonna have to put my engine plans on hold for a bit, I havn't seen an '88 Sport around here at all, let alone a parts car to get the engine harness out of...Guess I could always put the turbo 2.3 in, I've pretty much got whatever I want from that car.well, Thanks guys, really helped me out here, just gotta keep looking for a few more parts. '87 vs '88 5.0 SO-quick question Reply #11 – March 01, 2006, 04:54:03 PM I don't recall there ever being any major differences between 1987-88 Cougar/T-Bird 5.0 harnesses. There are a few between 1986 and 1987 though. Maybe he's thinking of Mustangs...California Mustangs got mass air in 1988, and that's a whole different harness from the '87 speed density one. That's about all I can think of. Quote Selected
