TC light control panel

Could aftermarket foglights easily be wired in to work with the fog light switch on a TC light control panel?  And would the panel be plug and play into an 87 LX?
Thanks,
Paul

Yes, it can and will work.  Been there, done that. Put 55w driving bulbs in those useless inner marker light housings. I used a driving light kit, removed the bulbs from the foglights, installed into the stock lights, installed all of the kit's wiring except for the fog light switch...used the TC switch instead.

 I love 'em.

Hmm sweet idea.  Sounds good, there's a switch on ebay right now, but it's pretty shabby.  Looks like I'll be posting on NATO and in the wanted section here.  I think I might just go with traditional mounting on the lights though.  I just wanted to have a stock look to the switch for them.  Thanks again for your info.

Very good idea (especially for Cougar owners, who don't have fog light slots in their bumpers), but what kind of 55W bulbs did you use, and how did you mount them? I'd think that the H3's metal base would get so hot it would melt the plastic.

I have a stock TC fog light switch in my '88 T-Bird as well, but I don't have the auto lamp wheels. It was actually pretty hard to find a TC panel without those wheels, and now I've even got a spare one :D

Yup, I had no interest in external mounted lights on my Cougar, had to look stock.

I actually have a panel with the fog lights but no auto wheels, got it from a 1986 XR7...I don't have auto lights but I like not having those nonfunctional plugs that remind me that we didn't order a Cougar with auto headlights back in 1987. So I did what I did. :hick:

Its an H3 bulb that is bolted to a long bolt with lock washers and a coupla nuts. There is a little depression in the H3 mount to let it slide into this combo of nut/bolt/washers and lock tight. That depression was how the driving light kit attached the bulb to the body of the light...don't think I was horribly creative in this, I was a copycat. :)

The bolt attaches to a metal plate (the kit had this, it was the back of the light assembly and had a nice grommet for the wiring) and I simply screwed in the metal plate to the back of the marker light and it works well.  Takes a little while to replace a bulb when it burns out, but not that bad.

My marker lense had a few cracks in it before, and I think they have gotten worse after a few years of using the 55w bulbs in there. Not sure what I'm gonna do about it, but I so love the mod (they really light up everything in total darkness, really handy in country roads or foggy nights) that I can't bear to not have them.

Mine is the 84 model T/c with the rocker switch under the dash. I used all the factory wire just cut the factory unit off after the plugs up front. Then I wired in the aftermarket units and bolted them to the factory bracket. Work great.

My only concern with this, I would use a relay.  I've heard of the switch burning up off of the factory fog lights, I'm sure that some aftermarket lights are more powerfull.

Fog Light Switch for 3.8

Just wondering if the Turbo fog light switch will work with aftermarket fog lights? I have a pair of small rectangular fog lights that would fit nicely in the two bumper slots on my 3.8 T-Bird.

I ditched my fog lights...even after I put 100W bulbs in them you could barely tell they were on, and I never used em. I figured having a couple open holes in the bumper for airflow would be more beneficial :)

I think the stock ones are 55w also...furthermore, most driving light kits come with a relay so the switch should be fine.

Its still a concern of hooking up the relay.  I don't know how many people I've met who just tossed it aside and wired them up direct, while working at autozone.

I wired mine up through a relay. If you go over to NATO (turbotbird.com) and look in the FAQ's, Jeff K. wrote an article on how to do it and has a little wiring schematic up there that could help, if you're working with most of the stock wiring at least...

Wiring through a relay is easy and that's how I have most of my stuff (fans, gauges, etc) wired. Hell of a lot easier than wiring a separate switch.
