My cougar is a 1986 with a 3.8L with an automatic. Where exactly is the EEC and how do you go about getting to it ?

Thanks.

Remove the passenger side kick panel and you'll find the EEC behind it

Should be in the pass side kick panl below glove box. Remove kick pnl and remove black platic cover if still there. Takes a 8mm or 7mm screw and pull down on it

The cover is held in by a 5.5mm screw and the EEC itself takes a 10mm wrench or socket to get out.But its behind the pass. side kick panel.
