Remote Car Starters

Can anyone recomend one brand over another?

It would appear that my BullDog remote starter, bought at walmart about five yeas ago, has a busted relay or two.  They are internal and cannot be replaced.

I have been dissapointed with BullDog since I installed the unit and was hopeing there were better brands on the market.

I am looking for just a basic remote starter.  No remote door locks or security system.  I need one with the :cold start feature:  ie:  It will start the engine every two hours or when ever it get below a certain temp.  Is their such a thing that will run the car continously (as in all  night long) for cold weather.  Often I am worried about leaving the car running with the keys in side.

Thanks for any advice.

I'd recommend getting a Python/Viper/Boa setup from Directed.  I know their security systems are pretty solid and I have the remote starter setup in my bird.  Two years and not a single problem.  The only gripe I have is their limited tech support.  It's not hard if you've done an install before, but jumping in blind is really tough.  I'll put up a link for you when I track down the website...

It seems they've improved the site from when I installed my system.  Online manuals are available now.

I'll second what amooset said. I installed alarms/ remote starts for 4-5 years. Our store carried DEI alarms and they are a very good brand. we rarely had any issues with them and the oly ones that ever came back from any problems was 99% of the time user error.

I 've not been a fan of audiovox in the past but i recently bought a Code remotestart by audiovox for 49.99 at circuit city. I slapped it in the TC and it has worked great. the only issue i have is that to start the car you have to hit the button, wait a second and hit it again. If you hit it too soon or not soon enough it doen't start. sometimes it is frustrating..

as for the programming of the starter to run all night or when temps are low, Most DEi units have these features and are easily programmed for differetn runtimes andsuch. If you have any questions feel free to PM me

Just an update.
I sprang for an autostart from Canadian Tire.  It seems audiovox, viper, and boa are difficult to find for retail sale in Canada.  I was leary about purchasing one off eBay incase it was defective so autostart seemed like the best bet.  My only complaint about it is that all the accessories are negative trigger (light, locks, trunk, horn) and all accessories are + trigger on a Ford; so numerious relays had to be used.  On my bulldog unit the module had positive trigger wires that were even fused.

The starting function works fine up till about -30, so I am overall very happy.
