Non-Ford question:

Posted this on a truck forum, but I'm not too hopeful of a response since they mostly have the newer trucks.

I'm in the process of adding a mechanical gauge set, (volts/oil/temp) and with the oil gauge install I looked over the wiring diagram in my Haynes manual before I started, to see if any other wiring would be affected by removing the idiot light's sensor. According to the diagram, one of the wires from the sensor then goes on to the electric choke switch. Am I going to need to jump that connection with the idiot light sensor gone? If so, will a simple wire jumper with two blade connections work, or would it need to be more complicated than that? (a resistor or something, jump all three wires, etc.)

The wires involved are an 18 ga. white wire that goes to a six-connection plug that uses only five of them, (ends up at the dash light, previous trace was in error) a 14 ga. red wire that comes more or less off the alternator, and 18 ga. dark blue wire that goes to the choke switch/choke. I'm having to use the 1981-'84 diagrams in Haynes since these details aren't listed under '85-'88.. but it has been accurate so far. The main diagram in question is '81-'84 2 of 7 on page 12-20.. connections in question are near the upper left corner of the diagram.

I managed to pull that section of the wiring harness up and out of the depths of the back of the engine, so I can get to it a little easier once I figure out what's what here.

Don't know if many of ya have experience working on '80s Dodge trucks, but I figure it's worth a shot.

'85 Dodge D100 w/ 318.

Just took it for a test drive and nothing seems odd with these connections open.. but I'd still like to know if I should do something about them.

All in all a good outing for a 21 year old truck:

-> 50 PSI oil pressure when hot (5 qt. 10w30, 1 qt. 10w40) and running 45 mph/1750 RPM.
-> 13.5v at idle with the headlights on and the stereo on.
-> Solid 14v at above speed, also w/ headlights and stereo.
