Now, let's not hate on the original Sables...I mean, the more I see new Mercs (i.e. Fords with fake Aluminum trim) the more I miss how uniquely elegant the 86-95 Sables were.  :)

Cool car, hope you keep it out of the junkyard.

Uhh. is it just me or is this a fox car site?  And sables are just rebadged taurus, which were the worst cars to roll off the line in the late 80's - I speak from experience.

then you have problems...IT SAYS USER RIDES...it's my ride...and BTW all the tauri we've had got to 200,000 with nothing major wrong...3 were 3.0 v6, 1 was a 3.8 v6. the 1st one *1988* got to 250,000 when the tranny went, put in a newer one it lasted till it rolled 300,000 then quit. #2 was the 3.8 1988 one, blew the head gaksets @ like 200,000, then the electrical system went. #3 '94 Taurus 175,000 nothing went...dad wrecked it. we're on #4 right now 1997 3.0 v6, 151,000 and still  smoking 'em. the sable will be #5...can;t wait
BTW this has been in the past 17 years...first one lasted us 10 years, the 3.8 was used $300, lasted 3 years, the blue one lasted 3 years *wrecked it last Nov.* and this one is still cranking... good cars if ya ask me.

You must have been lucky then.  My taurus only made it to 120K, heater core went out followed by many other problems.  Domino effect.  I know two other people that had the same problems, only theirs were automatic and ate through transmissions like crazy.  Of course these were all 86's.  Maybe they learned a thing or two in the following years

The Taurus in my book is one of the best "family" cars built by Ford. Over the last few years, the "best car" I've owned (next to the Cougar of course) was an '87 Taurus! That dang car would not die!

:rollin: I'm actually laughing out loud right now becuase I put that poor car through h-e-l-l.

My g/f also will own nothing else... she has a '92 that she wouldn't trade for anything!
