camshaft choices? August 08, 2005, 06:55:22 PM gentlemen and ladies(if thats the way you feel),i have a delima.a week or so ago,i bought a 2000 model explorer/mountaineer engine with 65k on it.no problems with the engine itself, but i have a serious choice to make.i have cleaned and painted it and gotten all of my goodies out to add.65mm throttle body w/bbk spacer, double roller timing chain, arp oilpump driveshaft, ford racing oilpump, proform 7qt oilpan, superstock damper trickflow valvespring upgrade kit,arp head bolts, arp engine bolt kit, compcams pushrods,crane/ford cobra 1.7 roller rockers, and thats the problem!i have a new b-303 in the box,but im really starting to become concerned with the rising gas prices.i could use a stock ho cam,or the stock explorer/mountaineer cam.the zt5 tranny is going back in for the overdrive.i have a choice of rear gears(stock mustang 8.8 w/2.73s and pos or tc 8.8 w/3.73s).anyways,i would like to hear some opinions.please! Re: camshaft choices? Reply #1 – August 08, 2005, 10:31:11 PM I have a similar setup but am using an automatic with 3.73 gears. If you have the manual with od i would go with the 3.73. As far as gas mileage its not great but its not that bad. I have the 1.7rr with the b303 and 73mm mass air meter and 24# injectors. Runs great. Hope it helps Quote Selected
