Stupid looking antique & classic tags in PA

I went to a car show tonight and was horrified by the downright ugly antique and classic tags. PA now has every plate looking the same as the normal plate except for the antiques, which sport a friggin red Chevy from the 30's in place of the first 3 letters or so.

The old antiques where a real vintage looking faded purple plate with white lettering.

I can't imagine their choice for the new plate. Why would ANY collector of antique cars want an image of another antique or collector car on their plate? I hope this thing fails and people protest these ugly messes.

I haven't seen the antique plates yet, but I'm against the normal plate change in PA. In my opinion the plates where the colors faded looked better than the new once. The 3 solid colors look terrible, and of course my new bird is stuck with a new one.

Come down to Florida and get like 4,999 people to agree with you, and you can have your very own tag. Our tag situation is sick.. there's like fifty custom tags down here now. I liked it back when the Challenger commemorative tag was the only alternative.. but now you can get one for every major sports team, every college, (we have tons) and every little cause you can imagine. I won't say which one me off the most, because it would likely start a verbal war.. but suffice to say, I think Florida's tag policy has gone way too far. But I'm sure we make a shiznit-load of money from it. (it's almost $200 just to get a new *regular* tag.. no idea what the custom tags cost.. and many of them have a higher yearly fee)

And just where do you think FL got the idea???? We have over 180(per the DMV web site), with more on the way(I believe we only have to have 1500 orders before they will produce a plate). Check out these two examples. The first showes VAs sucky Antique tags, I just plain despise the yellow/blue thing, and a tag for a model T looks out of place on newer cars.. Luckly they will let us register year of origin plates to the older models, I have a original set of 1969 plates I'm gonna register to the old Cobra Jet....

LOL All of North Carolina's plates look the same. Red state name and "First in Flight" motto, blue field, Wright brothers flyer, and plate numbers on a white background.

And they haven't changed it since 1981. :rolleyes:

I can't find a picture but in Illinois we have a comemerative 50th annaversary Thunderbird plate that can be displayed on your Tbird from June 1st till August 1st. I would have got one but I found out about them about 3 weeks ago (saw it a a Thunderbird show) and they were all gone. They looked cool cause they had a 57 Bird and a modern one on the plate. The numbers ran from 001 to 999 I believe.

I think every state has a ton of custom plates. I know we have ones for every nascar driver here, along with veterans, firefighters, shriners, and probably any other organization you can think of...

Also our new plates are just plain boring. The old ones were white with the outline of WV in the back, and they said "West Virginia" across the top and "Wild & Wonderful across the bottom. The new ones are white with one small gold & blue stripe across the top, and another gold & blue stripe across the bottom that says "Wild-Wonderful" in the middle. If you have a license plate frame on your car you can't even tell what state the plate is for.

Nothing beats ohios new common plates they look like they are f***ing cardboard, they have taken all numbers and letteres and flattened them, it looks like freaking cardboard.

We have only 32 different plates for all the country , one per state, and if you count the diplomatic and classic car plates (only for classic cars with 90% of originality) we have 34 plates...

Hey slamedcat sorry I took so long to respond but I went to Ozzfest :D yesterday so I didn't get a chance to go online. Any ways the show was at Zimmerman Ford in St. Charles. It was a Chicagoland Thunderbirds show (I'm a member) and it was July 16. Do you remember(prolly not)the NC plate that came out in the 70s that said "First In Freedom"?. They took so much shiznit over that one they pulled it in a couple of years...
