Cam Help!!

ok when i rebuild my engine i put in a new cam i got off ebay. it was suppose to be a stage 1 or 2 cam. different from the stock but not to different that i had to change anything well i been driving the car for about 2 months now and you can hear ever time it fires becuase you can hear the valves just rattle. so either i have all my valves collapsed or my rods are to short. so how do i figure out how long of rods i need without knowing what cam i used becuase im a moron and i forgot what one it is i know its a comp cam tho.

if you need more info just let me know this is way past what i know

all 5.0 roller cam shaft pushrods are the same  maybe you have a few bent ones? or maybe a lifter bleeding down.

the only reason you would need differant pushrods would be if the cam was a regrind or ground on a smaller base circle the camshaft manufacturer will be able to tell you about that.

are you running the stock valve train?

yea

now its not like i have 2 lifter that are making a noise everyone is. so i either collapsed all of my lifters, i cant see how i did that. or my rods are short they arnt bent of anything. but my rollers are torqued to where i need them but they have alot of play like i can put a screw driver inbetween the top of the pushrod and the rollers.

ok,number one thing you need to do is find/contact the cam manufacturer. and see if it is ground on a reduced basecircle.

if it is ground on a reduced basecircle all you will need to do is
mesure the lenth of the pushrod in it now in thousandths example(6.340)then pickup from jegs or summit a pushrod lenth checker (adjustable pushrod) to get the lenthyou need then order the appropriote pushrods.

or if you are lucky they will have delt with this problem before and may know what lenth you need

if it has a high enough lift, maybe the pushrods are,in effect, too long.when you tightened the rockers back down, did you check the preload on the lifters? its a possibility that the lifter is being colapsed to far.or maybe the cam is actually not a roller cam and in trying to run roller lifters on it is causing the whole problem.what im getting at,is if someone sells you a cam and cant tell you much of anything about it,its either that they got screwed and are trying to unload it on you or they are just trying to "give you what you think you want".and thats puttin it nicely.

no they told me all the spec i just dont have them anymore i bought the cam about a year ago. it was suppose to be a step up from the stock cam or close to the mustang cam maybe a lil different. i dont think its colapsed becuase the vavles that are open the push rods are tight there but its just that when the valves close and the lifter goes down the push rods arnt long enough to say tight with the rocker arms.

i have had the car running for 2 months now. so it did run before just it sounded like a washing machine

actually,i am having the same problem while assembling my latest.i'm running the b303 cam and cobra/crane 1.7 roller rockers.although the engine has yet to be run or primed for that matter, with new stock length hardened pushrods,i can the rocker bolt all the way down with hardly any drag at all on the pushrod as i turn it.once i start the engine,i can double check and use the adjustable pushrod to see how things are .i have actually considered milling .010 to .020 off the bottom of the pedastools on a bridgeport at work.the heads are the gt40p's and again had a similar problem on the current 94 gt engine thats in my 30th now.i'm not sure, but aren't the stock lenght 5.0L roller cam pushrods 6.272" long?does anyone know for sure?

ok i have a couple questions. the stock pushrods are 6.272 mine are 3.75 just a lil differents (yea right) ok now i got the car running but it lopes alot...i have never had or been around a car that as done this so im a lil lost. i know its ok but its like ever time i stop it wants to die.

first question im using speed density and a computer out of a 88 GT will it work with a lope.

second when i push the pedal to the floor it doesnt do anything for a good couple seconds before it goes. could my timing be off or could i need to get the mustang fuel pump?

i'm not positive, but i think i've read somewhere, that if you put a large cam in a speed density set up,you run the risk of the computer running in "closed loop"or was that"open loop"?anyways,it suppose to start running rich and a few other unhappy things.could someone else please expand on this!
