3.8 cfi auto stalling

Car runs fine will idle all day and normal under throttle but when coasting will cut out and starts immediately.getting code 31 (evp) would this cause it to stall?

Remove the vacuum hose from the EGR valve and plug the hose.
See if that makes a difference.
I am thinking maybe the vent valve is not releasing the vacuum to the EGR valve and holding it open when it should close.

Just sorted the evp now not showing on test but have ran out of time for a test drive got to go to work and can't risk breaking down.will try that tomorrow if I get no joy.

Still having problems cut out under throttle while overtaking a lorry pulled over and tried to start but turned over very slowly like a flat battery left it for a minute and started as normal!. The drive home from work was fine (headlights on) got it on the drive switch off for 5 minutes started straight away but was running lumpy and choked blip of throttle and all is fine again pulled codes got pass koeo and 44&94 koer (smog pump deleted) going to check and clean earth straps and + cable any other ideas would be welcome

Is it running hot?  A heat soaked starter motor can be weak.

Check the fuel pressure.

Check the ignition timing. Maybe you have a loose timing chain that has jumped over a sprocket tooth. Too far advanced can lug the starter motor down. Plugs firing too early in the compression stroke.

Change the TFI.  This is also heat sensitive.

OK I will check over these and have a spare tfi.cleaned all the battery conections on that the thin black earth wire the connector is in a bad way is it OK to cut the bad out and put a connector on or is there something electronic in there  as seems a bit big just to be a connector.

If you are referring to the thin black wire on the negative battery terminal, it is the ground for the EEC.
The connector where it connects to the wire in the cable harness is nothing special.
