O2 sensor(s) on a 1986 2.3L

My mechanic just informed me that I will probably need to have the "2nd O2 sensor"  on my 1986 XR-7 replaced before I take it through emissions testing next year.  I can't find ANYTHING in any of my repair manuals or online about an O2 sensor anywhere except under the hood.  My mechanic tells me that there's a 2nd one "near the catalytic converter."  Is my mechanic nuts or is there really a 2nd O2 on my car?  Thanks!

He must have you confused with a '96 model.
That O2's before and after the CAT didn't start until the OBD2 ECU's came out in '96.
You have one O2 sensor.

Yep, only one sensor.  Easily visible and accessible as it is right at the back of the turbo elbow.
