Repairing The Black Quater Window Glass Trim

I'd like to know if there is a way to repair the pitted surface of the black quarter window glass trim? The sun and weather has so kindly destroyed the trim around both quarter glasses on my 87 Sport. My T-Bird would look like new if it wasn't for the pitted black trim.

Good topic. Mine is very bad also. In addition, the single-piece rubber surround of my rear window is also ugly, and brittle.

I'll be watching for ideas. I was thinking of sanding it down a little, filling, and spraying with at least some plastidip rubber-like paint. I don't think the black was ever really a "rubber" though, even if it looks like dry rotted rubber.

Here is what a guy did to his Mustang windows. Obviously our windows are more complicated pieces but I think the general process will work. I have not tried this yet.

I don't think this will work for the rear glass trim on the 1988s. They shrink and crack too much.

Yeah, essentially my last-resort. Not sure the long-term reliability of painting, but anything is better than mine. I don't think the wear can get worse than on my car - always outside for almost 25 years. Only garaged the last few years. Of course, the original red seats are also sun-bleached white/gray, and the rear-deck carpet crumbles if you touch it.

We have some reproduction parts available now. I'm really hoping for new rear-window rubber soon. The only way I get get a NOS rubber piece is with glass, for about $650 parts-only.
