Mark VII Front Brakes

I have an 8.8" 5 bolt fox rear end that I am going to install in my 86 Elan this fall. I'll also be upgrading the front brakes to a 5 bolt configuration.

Has anyone performed the Mark VII front brake swap and if so, can you please pass on the bill of material? I'm guessing rotors, calipers and caliper frames. Can I keep the stock spindles or do these require replacement as well?

I appreciate the input.

Don't use the MK VII stuff as they'll limit wheel choice. Get some 94+ mustang ball joints, spindles, rotors, & calipers. There is a write up somewhere here iirmc

I'm planning on going to 17's. That should take care of any caliper interference issues.

It's not caliper interference, it's the hub that protrudes out of the center bore.

There is also no further performance from Mark 7 stuff. With the sn-95 stuff you can upgrade to 13" front rotors easily. The mark7 rear is also at least 3/4" wider depending on year, while 94-98 stang axles will be the correct width and cause no interference issues or rim selection problems.

Parts are probably as cheap or cheaper for sn-95 stuff nowadays.

If you use 87-93 5.0 Mustang spindles, you can put Mark VII rotors and calipers on those (or even just rotors) to accomplish the 5-lug conversion ... both use the 10.9" hub & rotor. As mentioned, some wheels will not clear the large bearing snout of that style of rotor which can limit your choices.

Does anyone know what the bearing snout OD is? I am using 17" Ford Bullitts.

The Bullitt rims will fit, the center cap will not. I have heard you can grind off the ends of the spindle then use a freeze plug instead of the standard dust cap, but I have not seen it done.
