84 3.8L - Engine Races in Wet Weather

Hey have 84 Tbird with 3.8L, 71K miles.  When in the rain or at car wash, engine will race intermittently whether driving or idling. Any thoughts as to the cause??  Thanks.

My first though is a TPS or ISC failure that is moisture induced. Could be an open circuit in the harness that moisture shorts out. Have you checked for KOEO and KOER codes? Might narrow down to TPS or ISC.

Agreed, next time it's raining and it's racing, use the paperclip trick to pull codes. My guess is the tps, but the readout should tell you.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
