On the 5.0? Right near the oil filter and oil pressure sender, if they're all like mine. Just saw it today while putting in a gauge set.

On the 3.8 it connects near the front/bottom of the block on the passenger's side to a stud.

Go out and have a look.  I'd help you out, but my car's about 2 hours away waiting for a new heart.

I accessed the cable from below. It is easy to get to, but you need to jack the car up a few inches unless you can slide under it without any lifting.

ok,, it connects in two spots if its the factory cable.  It will have a lug that connects to the engine block near the motor mount.

following the wire up towards the battery, you will find some insulation removed and a lug crimped on in the areas where is can attach to the side of the actual frame.  follow the cable up higher and you will see where the battery terminal is.

so,, it connects in two spots.  if it did not,, there would be a higher resistance in a lot of your ground circuits than you would like due to the isolation the motor/tranny mounts present.  there is also a wire mesh ground coming off the back of your head(s) which is attached to the firewall.
