3g alternator swap. questions

I would not rely on those two tiny black and orange wires that feed back to the electrical system. (They are black and orange on a 5.0 - yours might be a different color). You need to run a heavy gauge wire (4 gauge maybe) with the appropriate fuse for your alternator. So if you are running a 100 amp alternator, install a fuse holder inline with the heavier gauge wire and install a 100 amp fuse. Then clip the connector off the 2 black with orange wires and tape them off. the heavier wire goes to your solenoid on the left side lug. If you install a heavier gauge wire and then reinstall those 2 black and orange wires, if for some reason a heavy load burns out the fuse, you can still not have any protection by feeding power back through those undersized wires. I am not sure if there is an inline fusible link with those, but in any case they are not meant to handle the loads that a 3g alternator puts out. I would also install a heavier gauge ground strap between the engine and the firewall to make sure all leads are sufficient for the extra amperage.
