Oh no thats a dealer part ..... ya right

i was fixing my leaky gas tank and needed a new sending unit had to wait 3 weeks for it cuz i guess they made it just for me (jk) but now ive run into another snag and if any one could help id be a real happy boy.  i need to find  the electrical plug for the sending unit and all the part stores say its a dealer part,  being an old auto parts guy i know thats a line to say when you dont wanna deal with it, so im just wondering if i could really get it at the dealer or am i going junkyard raiding? thanks kyle

I believe Brian (ifixyawater) had a bad plug and couldn't find one anywhere - the part has been discontinued (much like almost everything else for these cars). A dealer wouldn't have it unless they had a NOS one that's been kicking around for 15 years or so...

Where did you get the sending unit?  Where my dad works, they remanufacture fuel pumps and sending units for everything, except tbirds/cougars.  I don't need one, but I hear they're impossible to find.  As for the plug, I may be able to help you out.  I pulled the one off of my 85 bird when I removed the gas tank.  15 bucks shipped and it's yours.

Someday we're all gonna have Ebay aftermarket gas tanks with cobbled together sending units from more popular Ford models  I just barely got my sender to hold onto the rusty clips when I upgraded the fuel pump :( It only leaks if I fill it more than 17 gallons - which cost too much and makes the car too heavy anyway :D

I ended up soldering mine on and covering it with Liquid Electrical tape then painted over it.  It worked ok, but I wouldn't reccomend it for a long-term solution.  Oh yeah, mine was an '84, too.  It appears that that plug is unique to that year, at least among Cougars and T-birds.

If 84's are unique, mine probably will not work for you.

you get them at the parts store by them selves or with a fuel filter.
