1983 Cougar Revived

Kinda got thrown into this project, if you could call it that. my old beast, a 1989 Pontiac Bonneville SSE, threw a rod...i think. While talking to a friend at work, he said his buddy had a car chilling in front of his garage that he wanted to -disappear-. So after dropping by for a few to check out the car, i drove 'er away for 300 quid.

Brought the car home, or at least what was left of it, and started working. turns out its a Canadian built, 1983 Mercury Cougar LS, with the 302 Carb'd V8, 7.5 inch rear with 2.73 gears, custom A/C delete, and half an exhaust (due to it falling off as i drove down the road, with excessive rust content.) Ive got some new-ish tires coming in for the front end this winter, and i want to redo the exhaust as a dual side pipe setup before the snow flies. Ive also taken the valve covers off, repainted them and added a little chrome to liven up the engine bay a little. BUT enough of the talk, on with the pics:

Not bad for 300 dollars Canadian.  It looks like the car is pretty decked out too - turn lamps, keyless entry, v8.  Nice!  That should get you through the winter.  But make sure you keep it clean so it doesn't rust on you.

Welcome to the board (and addiction)!

How much is that in real money

Looks like a nice base for whatever direction you plan on going with it, sir!

Its like 50 cents I think.

Put some weight over that rear axle.  You're going to need it in the snow!  I used to keep 3 cases of water stacked over my rear axle.
My car is a gravity hybrid.  The gasoline engine gets me up the hills, and gravity gets me down.

When I had my '86 Cougar, a girl I worked with would buy two fifty pound bags of dog food for me to put in the trunk of my car.

I needed weight on the rear end & she had a big dog, so it was a win-win :)

yeah comparable to the amounts some people pay for cars, it was like 50 cents. Cant wait for the snow to fall, its the first car ive owned thats a v8, rear wheel drive, and a 2 door. I got it sideways during a rain storm, and it was pretty epic then.

Nice, I bought my 84 Thunderbird for 300 bucks. It had some of the same problems, rusted exhaust and such. I also went with a dual, side exit. I used two Thrust Turbo lers. Other people think it's a little loud, but it's not bad when you're in the car.

What size tires are those?
