just needing to vent

Well it's been 10 years since i've been asked to go more than an hourand half drive from home to work and in Construction, OH thats not to bad.  The issue i'm having is i got called at 2:30 am this morning and was told i was to pack some clothes and get to coshocton by 6am.Was not expecting this at all heck i went to bed at midnight thinking i would be going to my normal site 30 minutes from the house. I called my foreman and he was pissed cause they didnt inform him either. The guy who called me said that my room would be paid for well i got up here and was told i needed to pay for it and they would give me 1 hour on my check to make up for it by now im ready to quite but i stuck it out. They r paying for the room up front got that takin care of but after tomorrow i have to go to Mansfield, OH to work to more days then go home. I know there are worse things but im most upset that i didnt get to give my kids a hug and kiss bye cause they were all staying with grandparents. Well thats it Im vented out now

I remember my military days. "You're going to England tomorrow"...O.K.

"We're flying to Guam for 45 days in two days"...On it....

"You're going to the Persian Gulf for over a year"...Um...O.K.....

It could always be worse. It's a job,and sometimes you gotta take the bad with the good to pay the bills.Hang in there,Man.It'll be fine.Tiring, but fine. How old are you?

I agree totally with you.Call the kids a lot when you can,do a lot with them when you get home before you rest, and bring them back a little something. They go crazy for that stuff.

I totally know how you feel man. Since March, I have been on and off doing the out-of-town stuff. We have been doing work for the Corps. Of Engineers on all of the major dam's in Tennessee and Kentucky - part of a stimulus plan I guess. Missed 1 kids birthday, and I fear I will also miss my 3 year anniversary with my wife. It really sucks, but you gotta do what you gotta do to support your family. It really makes you appreciate them more when you're at home. I look at it this way, instead of sending you where the work is, they could be sending you to the house.

What kind of work do you do, If you don't mind me asking

I live on the road,, problem with you is you seem to have no control over travel plans.
I book my own stuff how and when i choose.  If someone else is booking your travel, your never going to be completely covered or comfortable.

and whats this comp of 1hour to cover the hotel ?

you make 85-125/hour? you cant find a decent hotel cheaper.

Once....read one time, did I rent a room for less than 75 bucks....

I kid you not, blood on the bathroom wall. shiznit on the top cover on the bed. (least I think it was dookie, coulda been chocolate...wasn't getting close enough to tell for sure!) and other stinks and stains.

I went back to the desk and got my money back, and drove on home.

Since then, I've made it a point to stay in good places when I go somewhere...has panned out for me.

Coming from a wife's point of view, just keep in mind how much it is appreciated that you work so hard for your family. We wives at home do understand how hard you guys work and truly appreciate it all.
My husband is a truck driver. Granted, he is local now, but he works harder than most OTR drivers, since he is the one unloading the entire truck every day. He starts work around 4 a.m. and usually doesn't get home until 6 p.m. and some days not until 10 p.m. He has anywhere from 14 to 20 stops daily and has to unload at each stop. Most times he has a pup, on short days he has a straight truck.  He usually puts in between 55 and 60 hours a week, which for him is just 4 work days.
The kids and I really appreciate all he does for us, and he rarely complains. To top it off, he helps at home with things too and he spends a lot of time with the kids and our grandson.
I realize it sucks when you have a job when you have to travel and have little control over where you are each day or how long you are working. But I just wanted to remind the guys out there working for their families, that there really is someone at home who appreciates you for doing it.

20thanny, Im an union operator i work construction.
Jcassity, it would be put as overtime witch is time and a half so about $44.24 is what they would have gave me for the room that cost $60 at the company discount but i got the company to pay for the room .
I am the only income in the house my wife is a stay at home mom so i do what i need to to keep working if im layed off ill do side jobs if unemployment isnt enough to pay bills and keeep food. My dad raised me to work for the stuff i got all my toys growing up either i earned the money or it was a hand me down from one of my older sisters. I really wanted a brother growing up. My sisters where givin everything they wanted didnt need to lift a finger. But i thank my dad for being that way with me cause i see the value in everything i've got.
LittleAngel, You got a good man as my stepmom would say so u better keep him :D
