Master Cylinder Replacement

I finished the 10' break conversion over the weekend. Tow truck to the tire shop for a aligment and finished.. well close. The breaks are still not up to snuff. While bleading the breaks, I noticed the break fluid was dark, so I figured I would remove the old fluid, in doing so I found a layer of muddy sludge on the bottom. I'm sure this slude is all up in the master cylinder so I ordered a new one from NAPA.

Any hooo.. I havn't ever replaced a master cylinder on these cars.
Question is do you need to disconect the break peadle to replace the master cylinder? This is for a 86 cougar.

Thanks.

No,  you do not need to disconnect anything inside the car

while your at it, you may consider getting a master cylinder with a bigger bore, like the cobra one? you might eventually go with bigger breaks and want more fluid going to the calipers and now with you replacing it anyway... just a thought
