Master Cylinder Replacement April 13, 2010, 02:24:16 AM I finished the 10' break conversion over the weekend. Tow truck to the tire shop for a aligment and finished.. well close. The breaks are still not up to snuff. While bleading the breaks, I noticed the break fluid was dark, so I figured I would remove the old fluid, in doing so I found a layer of muddy sludge on the bottom. I'm sure this slude is all up in the master cylinder so I ordered a new one from NAPA. Any hooo.. I havn't ever replaced a master cylinder on these cars.Question is do you need to disconect the break peadle to replace the master cylinder? This is for a 86 cougar.Thanks. Quote Selected

Master Cylinder Replacement Reply #2 – April 13, 2010, 10:02:52 AM while your at it, you may consider getting a master cylinder with a bigger bore, like the cobra one? you might eventually go with bigger breaks and want more fluid going to the calipers and now with you replacing it anyway... just a thought Quote Selected
