STOPPPPPP! The insanity Susan,,ugh. brake Q

Ok, since there are a TON of threads with tons of variables and no real true direct info on switching a T/C rear end into 5 lug (without causing some senior members to get huffy) I want to know.. How much better is a T/C rear disc setup than a 10" rear drum? (I wanted to convert my 87 T/C to 5 lug but gave up after trying to decipher all the info on various threads and sifting through sarcasm and lack of patience from members "offering advice"):punchballs::punchballs::punchballs:

Discs are better than drums, period. The only things drums have in their favor is a little bit lighter, and more resistant to brake fade.

I dunno about other people, but I'm just going to swap in 94+ Mustang axles, and the respective year brakes etc...the hell with tracking down various parts from more than one vehicle.
Certain years and models have bigger rear discs...keep in mind, much bigger than a 13" rear disc will probably require at least a 17" wheel, if not 18"

And I agree, someone needs to make a locked sticky thread without all the sarcastic gs and moanings about how to convert a TC rear to 5 lug, with a couple or 3 options for bigger brakes. ;)

I would just like to throw this out there  ,

What kind of driving are you going to do with the car ?
 
My car is DD and personally I don't think its worth the effort to switch to rear discs on mine .
  While it is true discs are more effective, unless you are doing any sort of "spirited" driving  rear drums work just fine .
 
 How about this example , in 1965/66 the Shelby GT 350 "race cars",used rear drums and they were driven alot harder  than most of us will ever drive .
 Granted that was 40+ years ago and technology has advanced . but  I believe rear drums are still used on a few models even now.

Bottom line its your car and you need to decide what you want to do with it :D

It's actually easier to go 5 lug disc than it is to go 5 lug drum...as long as you can find an unmolested Mustang, :rollin:

Whereas to do drums, you'll need to find 2 Rangers...and then some other stuff.

I went through this myself. Of course, if/when I do the swap, I still have to find the rotors, calipers, and cables, etc.

THANX! Well TBS302 and Hypo, finding the parts isnt really a problem. There is a yard by me that has a few Stangs (V6's) and a TON of Rangers and Aerostars, and Bronco IIs to ravage. But Im thinking that It might be easier just to stay with drums BUT Im not sure. Im not all to keen on changing Master cylinders and . Plus you dont get the Quad shocks on the Stang rear end.  (right?) I can get a complete rear end for $200... so I guess Ill just have to see whats what....
