Advice for PS3 December 15, 2009, 03:34:47 AM I have had my PS3 for 2 years now and have wondered why ps1 and ps2 games look like . A few ps1&PS2 games look fine but the majority do not. I have adjusted the ps1&2 settings on the ps3 menu , it does nothing. is it because of new HD t.v's ?? .Anyone have the same problems? Quote Selected
Advice for PS3 Reply #1 – December 15, 2009, 05:55:16 AM Games that were originally rendered at a resolution of 320x200 just aren't going to look good on a display made for 1280x720 or 1920x1080. You're prolly just used to seeing the "good stuff" these days. Quote Selected

Advice for PS3 Reply #3 – December 15, 2009, 10:32:59 AM PS1 and PS2 games look fine on my 60gig PS3. They look just like they did on the PS2. It may be because I don't have a fancy TV though. Quote Selected
Advice for PS3 Reply #4 – December 15, 2009, 01:25:23 PM Common issue. Something about the graphics drivers on the PS3 being different and actually making a PS1/2 game look worse. It's been proven in side by side comparisons.http://playstation.joystiq.com/2006/12/14/lets-discuss-backwards-compatibility-downgrades/http://playstation.joystiq.com/2006/12/30/do-your-ps2-games-look-too-jaggy-on-the-ps3-heres-a-semi-fix/Apparently, a firmware update is the fix if your PS3 encounters this....See here: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=808212&view=by_date_ascending&page=1QuotePLAYSTATION 3’s output is 480i/480p/720p/1080i/1080p, but PlayStation/PlayStation 2 software is played back at the resolution that is on the disc. When PS/PS2 software is played on the PS3, the interlaced signal is converted to a progressive signal (IP conversion/transformation). Because of this, the PS3's picture has noticeable roughness when compared to the PS2. For example, depending on the software’s original recording, outlines can be jagged/notched. Please understand.Furthermore, from the home menu under [Settings] > [Display Settings] > [Video Output Settings] is Standard NTSC selected? In case you’re using an HDMI cable, please try using the included AV cables as they smooth the outlines. Please give it a try. Concerning the IP conversion/transformation, there are plans to improve it in an upcoming update. Advice for PS3 Reply #5 – December 17, 2009, 04:50:33 PM This will never be an issue for me, since I have one of the 120g PS3 slims. That means I can't play anything but PS3 games now. That's not a big deal, though, since I still have my PS2 hooked up in the shop. Quote Selected
Advice for PS3 Reply #6 – December 17, 2009, 07:03:41 PM ive always heard its due to how the ps3 emulates ps2 games. PS2 uses hardware emulation, PS3 uses software emulation. PS2's are super cheap now. Quote Selected
Advice for PS3 Reply #8 – December 17, 2009, 08:43:11 PM Has anyone else played Star Wars: The Force Unleashed yet? One of the best console games I've played in a very long time. Probably the best 1st person. I got the Ultimate Sith Edition with the tin case and every optional costume you can think of from any movie, (You can even play as C3PO, young or old Kinobe, or as Luke from episodes IV, V, or VI). And since it's Bluray, it's all on one disk. 360 players can't play the levels on the first disk with the costumes, because they're on the second disk. PS3 wins again! The list is below, but I didn't need to make the achievements in the parentheses to use them.# Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker (Episode III version)# Darth Sion (Knights of the Old Republic 2)# Imperial Commando (Republic Commando)# Kit Fisto# Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker (Episode VI)# Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi (Episode III)# Ki Adi Mundi# General Starkiller (Concept)# Hooded Combat Gear (Jedi Concept)# Sith Assassin (Concept)# Spirit Apprentice# Republic Trooper (Episode III)# Tatooine Luke (Episode IV)# Utility Combat Suit (Apprentice)# Ben Kenobi (Episode IV)# Animated Style (Clone Wars Animated Movie)# Plo Koon# Count Dooku (Episode II)# Jango Fett# C-3PO# Temple Exploration Gear (DLC)# Cybernetic Reconstruction# Darth Maul (Episode I)# Mace Windu# Qui Gon Jinn# Dark Stalker (unmasked Stalker)# Sith Training Gear# Lightsaber Training Droid# Combat Training Droid# Desert Survival Gear (DLC)# Dark Lords Armor (DLC)# Training Gear# Heavy Training Gear# Light Training Gear# Medical Robe# Bounty Hunter Disguise# Corellian Flight Suit# Jungle Combat Gear# Industrial Explorer Suit# Jedi Adventurer Robe (Holocron)# Kento's Robe (Holocron)# Sith Robe (Holocron)# Ceremonial Jedi Robe (Good Ending)# Sith Stalker Armor (Sith Ending) Quote Selected
