Brake Problem

I have a pristine Cougar 96 that's on standby. I start it up about every 2-3 wks and run the AC , shift it to get the tranny seals moist,etc.
      At my last startup the brake pedal went to the floor...!!!!
 pffffffffft it said. 
        I looked under the hood and it looks like a hose going from the master cylinder to under the battery leaked.
          I need to replace it. Does anyone know what it's for????
