Octane ratings?

I run 93 in the SHO. I figure ill pay the extra 2-4 cents to bump up over 91.

Here is the question. Is it really possible to pump 87 then mix in an additive to achieve 93+?

I usually fill up when I get gas so I will be mixing approximately 18.4 gal with whatever I use.

What is a safe? Is it worth it? Should I just stick with 93?

We are talking a 32-4 cent difference from 87 to 93.  .32X18= $5.76 per fill up.

Just random thoughts

As far as I have read, octane "boosters" raise your gas one octane point, which is actually .1 octane or something? Not worth it.

Agreed. Octane boosters really don't do a whole hell of a lot.

Well lets say i use a higher octane, 100+,  added to 87? I wonder how much I would have to ad to bump it up? Im just rambling but an idea.

Just buy 91-93 octane ;)

I run 91-93 octane in the T-bird because with the 60cc chambers and timing advanced to 14* it pings on anything less than that:hick:

doing it this way would cost more than those octane boosters in the end.

all gas is so similar now anyway with all the  they throw in it 87 is more like 91 now.

I figured I would ask anyways.

Its a $.15 jump from 87 to 89, then $.15 from 89 to 91, then $.02-.04 from 91-93. Why not pay the extra few cents? I have come to learn who does and doesnt have 93 and will drive past the pump to check. Seems a little much for some but if Im paying top price I might as well get all I can.
