EGR question

I took off my EGR valve to test/clean it and had a question.  Shouldnt I be able to move the valve (I guess thats what you call it) that sticks out of the second hole pictured on the base? (not counting bolt holes)

Put vacume to it and see if it will hold.

Thanks for the response!

Well I dont have a vacuum pump, but by attaching a vacuum hose to it and sucking nothing happens.  Its just like sucking through a straw.  It wont let me blow through it however.  I sprayed some wd40 on the valve and let it sit for a few minutes and then messed with it some more and it freed it up, but still nothing when i suck on it and if press it in and cover the vacuum port, the valve still just pops back out.

Take a main vac line from your car, hook it to that see what it does. but really even with your lips you should be able to suck it open. Sounds like it's shot.

I tried using a main vacuum line too and it didnt do anything different.  Looks like i'll have to spend the 85 bucks on a new one.

Don't do that, there all over the yards. I got 2 in my trunk, I really don't know why.
Give me an address, I'll send you one. It won't hurt it to run it with the vac line plugged till you can replace it.

Thanks!  I will cap it off even though I don't think I will be driving it.  I have only put about 200 miles on it since i bought it 4 months ago.

The EGR position sensor has to be on the top for it to hold a vacuum.

I had the sensor in place for the series of "tests" I did.
