Good news

Turns out we ended up saving ourselves probably close to $1000 yesterday.... thanks Gary!

We had taken the Cougar to a garage because we knew we needed brakes. They had told us we also needed calipers and rotors all the way around.
So, we took it up to see Gary (black 95 cougar) and had him look at it.  Turns out the calipers weren't bad at all... however, (and I'm not sure what the part is actually called) there was a part on it that has two pins that should slide in and out easily, pumping the brakes. Turns out they were frozen. So he took them apart, cleaned them and lubricated them, all the way around.
We only need rotors on the back and pad on front and back, which we have a few months on yet.  We'll also need tires.
We'll get all of this done before inspection in June.

I haven't driven the car all winter because of this. However, I will be able to drive it today for the first time in months!! YAY!

Its nice to take the time and repair what you have and narrow down what isnt really broke.  I recently swapped out all my caliper pins / bolts for allen head type vs the factory torx.  These fox's came with torx head , not sure what the MN12 came with.  250 bucks a wheel sounds a bit steep to absorb all in one swoop.  Not to say it isnt worth 250 because new parts alone would easily reach that along with labor.

congrads.

always be careful when taking your car to a shop, alot of them like to say that you need things when you really dont hoping that you wont question it and then nothing gets changed but you still pay for it.  Happens all ofthe time at the shop I work for and it really pissed me off

Same thing happened to my buddies cousin. She got new tires and an alignment. They told her they couldnt do the alignment because she needed new struts. My buddy and his Uncle had replaced them the week before. Not sure how they figured they would get away with that. I think it was because of the female factor.

That awesome! More money for the new baby? Assuming thats the new count down...

Yep that's the count down DVP...I'm going to be a Grandma. LOL

The garage we took it to originally was one we have dealt with several times. Roger thought they could be trusted. However, the manager showed his true colors one day when he did a repair for us and told us it would cost one thing then after doing it, he wanted another $50 on top of it.... however, we found out he didn't put it through the garage..,he did it on his own and pocketed what he charged us. So, he didn't actually get his other $50 because when I went to get the car I had the original amount with me, and told him I'd bring back the rest.
After I told Roger what the guy did, we decided that he was not getting the extra $50 he wanted..... he had no records of doing the work (of course, neither did we) but we decided not to let him get away with it.
We no longer take our cars there (obviously).

Congratulations! I only trust a shop if I know someone that works there personally and have seen who they really are.
