power steering fluid March 16, 2009, 04:57:13 AM I was wondering if anyone knows how much ATF is in the power steering pump? Quote Selected
power steering fluid Reply #1 – March 16, 2009, 09:07:50 PM I will take a guess and say around a quart to a quart and a half. Give or take. At least that is what it would take empty. Guessing of course. This could be way too much. Quote Selected
power steering fluid Reply #3 – March 18, 2009, 11:45:44 AM less than 34 fl oz. I bought a jug that bid and filled it twice when mine was leaking. Sorry thats not very very specific. Quote Selected
power steering fluid Reply #4 – March 19, 2009, 04:24:56 AM Ok. My power steering pump was noisy and the dipstick showed it was low on fluid (no fluid at all on the dipstick), so I added like 4 fl oz to fill it up. That solved the pump issue, but I find it a little odd that adding just 12% of its total capacity makes such a difference. :-) Quote Selected
power steering fluid Reply #5 – March 19, 2009, 07:16:34 PM I would make sure you use ATF instead of power steering fluid, unless its actually ment for your car. The ATF also lubricates the pump, not just moves the rack. Running without the pump full will destroy it in only a couple hundered miles. Quote Selected
