You need the shifter, cable, and bracket from a 83-88 T-bird or Cougar with a floor shifter and a AOD. AFAIK the Mustang parts won't work.

The Mustang cable will work if you use the Mustang shifter. As long as it's a matched set, you're good.I'm not sure the size difference,if any of the shifter  itself (the P-R-N-O-D-2) part.It could be made to work fairly easy I would imagine.

I've swapped valve bodies a few times. It's not hard to do at all.Just pay attention, keep everything surgically clean, and you'll be fine.If you can do it before the tranny is installed, even better and easier.Lot's of bolts.I think they were 8 mm,but can't remember.Turn the tranny upside down, remove all the bolts that hold the valvebody to the tranny, unhook the spring clip thing that works the shifter detent, and there you go.Replace everything in the opposite order.Swap the converter while you're at it as well.Check the torque rating,I don't know what it is.I just snugged mine, but, the bolts really should be torqued correctly. The valvebody can be delicate.

Oh,be careful there.I just know about what I've done.I don't claim to be the "King of Tech".I'll let some other person have that job. There's only a handful of parts I haven't had to deal with building this car.If I can help,I'll be glad to.
