Cross-over Hook-up Question

Hey all,
I hope you'll forgive me for throwing a non-Fox question in here, but I feel sure that one of you guys has some expertise here.  I've had a component set (6 1/2" mids, surface-mount tweeters, and active crossover) that I've never installed after several years.  I was holding out for an installation into a Fox car, but since it still looks like it'll be a while before I can get one, I'm gonna put them in my '98 F150.  My question is, is there a good source of ignition-switched power somewhere in the door (my Lariat has all the power options) to jump off of, or should I just run dedicated power and fish it through the door's wire conduit?  I've hooked more than my share of sound systems up, but an active crossover is still unknown territory.  I don't even have an amp in my truck right now; will this speaker setup sound OK with just head unit output?  Or are you expected to run this system with an external amp?  Thanks for any pointers.

Sorry, but I wasn't paying attention.  If someone could move this thread to the Audio forum, that would be great.  Thanks again.

1. Thats it no help  for you its not a Fox Question. LOL

2.Why do you need switched power in the door for? I have kinda been outta the car audio scene  for some time but last time I knew an active crossover is one that Actively cuts the output so that low bass ans such doesn't reach the speakers. I can't say I've ever seen one that  takes power other than speaker wires.

3. Yes it will work you just might not get the most volume depending on the power handling capabilities of the setup. If you want it louder get and amp.

4. It isn't needed but more power will give you cleaner sound and less distortion than most internal head  unit amps.

wow an active cross over? usually they are passive. in the mustang i mounted it under the head unit but there was a ton of room there. i imagine theres room behind the glove box or dash somewhere for it. if its active you chould be able to probe the switched power for the head nits harness, at least thats where i would start.

passive or active, they both do the same thing by way of the RLC circuit or frequency separation.

com'on man, dig deep, you know this one:D its easy.
oh, and btw, a sub woofer is a speaker also:flip:

Ok so I guess this is where I  should say Yes Scott you are right! I guess I should say it more like this. A crossover is a unit that separates
the Frequencies into ranges. You can have a low pass(high cut), high pass(low cut), or a combo circuit with both a  low pass and high pass circuits. That would make it more a  mid range circuit. Active or pass same basic idea.  Yes a sub woofer is a speaker. What jew tink I'm a Krazy man. I like it. I like it ALOT!
