Operation 200k

The Cat is parked for good now. A little saturday tomfoolery finally burnt up the trans. It was missing 3rd and OD when i got it exactly 2 years ago last weekend. Not much of a problem in the city where im lucky to see 40mph. It was plated with 2 year plates which are about to expire.

The drive home was something. Poping out of 2nd mostly and the downshift to 1st was rough. All hell broke loose when i threw it in reverse to back into the drive way.

Its the second time ive had a good 10thousand miles of fun on less then 2k, and thats why I bleed blue.

Ive got an extensive list of things to do between my 3 cars right now but primarily get the rocker arm noise with the crown vic fixed. It has more than 50k more miles then the other two parked next to it yet still runs like a dream.

The goal, to have the tbird and cougar on the road by the time the CV has 2 times the miles and then go through and bring the CV back to its full glory. Ive always wanted the Police Interceptor running gear under that thing. Stiffer sway bars, bigger tires, heavier springs, and of course the push bar.

Im going to try and get the tbird running before the cougar. I dont want to rush myself on the Cat as it really is my dream car. I love the bird solely for its ties to the Cat, minus some luxury. I remember my buddies v6 5speed mustang doing little 3rd gear scratches in high school. He drove it into his first two years of college before getting a truck. We took several road trips in those years and it was always great on gas and just enough highway power to git 'r done. I see the tbird as a bare bones SCCA/daily driver?? Coil Overs and a 5speed swap are the first of the to do list. Ive already done most of the gutting. A very minimal gauge cluster will be fabbed up to the steering colum support and carpet, seats, and stereo will be history.

Everything the Tbird will be lacking the cougar will have. AC, quiet ride, jamming stereo and of course i had a friend who works in an upholstery shop help me out finding a nice set of power leather seats.

I have debated day and night what to do for my dash in the Cougar.
Im wanting the feel of a fighter jet. I love the star wars dash but i just see too much hassle in keeping it and ditching fuel injection.

The first order though is the AOD. I dont want a stick in that car. I just know i would wreck it in a country mile and a new york minute. I want to be able to sip my root beer float when im cruising. I know the C4 swap is tried and true but it will hurt mileage, no?? I get the whole friction thing in the belt drive OD but can anybody really build one right? I really like the idea of a C4 with a gearvendor underdrive/overdrive unit but will the 3k in drivetrain be full jusitfied in mileage. Im seeing a 650cfm carburetor giving me 26+mpg if i can get my 70mph rpm below 1800 . Just a few thoughts guys, im exhausted from cleaning the garage out trying to organize parts between 3 cars.

Sorry to hear about the tranny.I understand.Good luck with the Bird.I need a new project.I may end up buying the LX a couple of towns over in the fall. It's loaded except for a console and floor shifter.I can fix that.It can be had for about $450 and it is 100% complete and no body damage.I wish you luck on the Bird project.Keep us posted, and pics of the progress.

I was referring to the porsche. I already well and know what a stock t/c will do. Im waiting for my first experience with porsche boost.

And for breaking stuff, i have more respect for other peoples cars then i do my own. Me and my cars is a love/hate, the customer always gets the love. I must say i enjoyed the Infinity G35 today though and I hate nissan.
